HELP! Our Staff Has Been Absent/missing Since December. by MyExpression(op): 11:00am On Jan 02, 2025
The staff joined the company in September 2024...and this past December makes it 3months since she's been with us.

It's a remote job...and I didn't ask for CV.

Our work has been excellent and going smoothly all this while, with her expert Excel sheet documentation.
No delayed payment or toxic work culture wahala.

Unfortunately, in the peak of the season, when work trippled, she disappeared.
Keeping us stranded. Backlogs don plenty.

Her number has been switched off since 15th Dec.
I've called that number almost daily...and sent messages.

I don't know what could have happened with her...even tho she hinted on some stressful life's challenges recently.

Buh work has got to continue, this is a new year.
Works starts officially on 6th January.

What do I do?
Sim replacement takes only 48hrs.
Company number is everywhere online for her to reachout with another number, if her phone had issues.
I've checked her name on Facebook and twitter...no way, coz I don't even know what she looks like...na only her voice I know.
I don't know if it's my responsibility to report to police...I don't know who else to reach......yet I still can't move on like that with peace of mind.

Resourceful for your company, she can also be resourceful for another company or new man in her life.

Move on.

This should be a lesson to all recruiters, especially those hiring remote workers. Always ensure you have their details, including next of kin, just in case something like this happens. You should also prepare a well written contract with agreement of a one month notice before termination.

I'll advise the OP to look for another employee. Perhaps, she's moved on or in worse case scenario, something has happened to her. Whichever the case, your business needs to continue. So hire someonelse, and in case she returns, let her know you've moved on. It's not your fault.

the pay is just 15k, it was useless to her. She saw a better offer and didn't think it worthwhile to stress herself by informing you, I guess.

When the lady applied for the job, was she interested in her boss or her workhuh

Read the question slowly to answer your question.

OP there is a crisis of work ethic in this current generation. They are cooked because when they see what the real work involves, they quit. Work to them is the glamour of social media content and I blame technology for this because it has replaced their desire to solve problems with tools. Only if they got into the lives of the content creators, they will know that there is no work without hard work. Even cam girls, Yahoo boys and scammers still have to put in some work in their evil trade before they reap reward. This life is not all enjoyment. The worker has ghosted you. Cut your losses and move on.

It's you that don't understand the context. I m also a remote worker the OP didn't indicate how much he paid, he only pay regularly.

A good remote worker cannot be out of jobs Even though she will attempted to do all at the same time. But it's not possible, she will go with highest bidder.

Nigerians are the worst remote employer. OP deserved what he got

Whether it is offline or online, the bolded is standard. If you agreed to it, honor your agreement. It is the honorable thing to do. No argument. If your marriage is toxic, sign the divorce papers.

I just saw Kenny Ogunbe's interview. I think you need it. These were the kind of things he talked about. You expect the OP to tell us the salary. You accuse the OP of not paying regularly. All speculations because of other bad employers. Okay I hear you.

Honor your agreements young people, old people, EVERYONE.

So can you tell me the formal agreement existing between OP and the lady. Didn't you read the part where OP didn't even collect CV.

Even if there's a contract, I will still walk out if I see better payment. And even pay you back your small money.

There are express contracts and implied contracts. One of the reasons I told OP to cut their losses and move on but when you quoted me or I quoted you, I said it is more honourable to fulfill your agreements. It is this chameleon attitude that brought up contract and people still don't fulfil it.

"Hey I'm out of here" is better than ghosting the employer who has placed hopes on you and you agreed to fulfil it. It's not nice. We all complain about artisans not giving updates and disappointing you. In that implied contract, they did not fulfil their side to the agreement and you disappointed you. Think about tailors, that's what happened to the OP. People are the best judges of others but worst lawyers to themselves.

If she's as good as you say she, then maybe she found a better job and ditched your company. . .

Declare a vacancy and improve your terms of employment. Good luck 👍

She complained about her life challenges but you Didn't care to follow her struggles up yet you claimed your work is excellent and smooth.

Do you know what it means to say a company's work culture is excellent?

You're only concerned about milking your members of staff dry,not helping their emotional and personal challenges?
