Does The Length Of A Christian's Daily Prayer Time Matter? There's no one is a better position to answer this question than the best and greatest prayer warrior of all time, Master Jesus Himself, so let's hear what He had to say about this. Matthew 26:40-41 (KJV) And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. From the above saying of Jesus, we could clearly see that the length of prayer time mattered to Jesus. Despite that it was already late at night and His disciples had already prayed for a while before falling asleep, Jesus wasn't still satisfied and even chided His disciples because they could not pray with Him for at least an hour at that crucial moment of His ministry. So Jesus didn't just ask His disciples to pray but also specific about the length of their prayer time. He asked them, "could ye not watch with me one hour?" Moreover Jesus was shown to be a man of lengthy prayers. He was said on several occasions to have spent many hours during His prayer time with God. Luke 6:12 (KJV) And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. So if we were to go by the teaching and example of Jesus Christ, then the length of our prayer time doesn't just matter but matters a whole lot! God bless. |

So don't let anyone deceive you that the length of your prayer time doesn't matter. They cannot know better than Jesus who is the perfect example of how the prayer life of a Christian should be, and Jesus didn't just pray, He prayed for many hours. That was essential to His overcoming of temptations and triumph over all the works of devil. So anyone who want to achieve similar victories over the devil, must follow His example and teachings on prayer. God bless. |

After I spoke about not finishing my daily prayer before crossing over into the new year despite having already prayed for several hours in a recent thread, some were blindly arguing that praying for hours was unnecessary and not how Jesus taught us how to pray. And that wasn't the first time I have heard such a thing from so-called Christians, hence I deemed it necessary to use the teachings and example of Jesus correct that erroneous notion because of the crucial role prayer plays in the life of a true and powerful Christian. I am speaking from experience because my prayer life is crucial to the great things God is using me to accomplish here and elsewhere that make many marvel. For those who keep asking me how I am able to thrive despite the sheer amount of opposition I face here in this forum, including from so-called Christians, my lengthy prayer life is key to that. So you cannot even be able to achieve what God is using me to do here without praying for hours on a daily basis, how much more that of Master Jesus? Even an hour is too small for some of us who have to stand in the gap for many and were used by God to execute some spiritual tasks of the highest order. But an hour which appears to be the minimum requirement for every true Christian from what Jesus said to His disciples is a good place to start. God bless. |

Prayer is not mechanical. The length of time spent doesn't in anyway affects the efficacy of prayer positively or negatively. If only your faith can carry you, it's the very vehicle that conveys your prayer to God. |

It depends on the god you're praying to. |

As in, where in that passage did Christ say His disciples should pray for 1 hour? |

Brenbentondiaz:It's there. But look at the circumstances of that prayer. Christ had told them that He was going to die, but clearly they did not understand, and especially as it was not them who was going to die on around that period, so as usual with people, they would not pray long See how sick people who think they are gonna die start praying and over praying sef. So prayer is matter of Spirit, knowledge and understanding as we see in the prayer where He fed thousands with bread. That prayer was not up to 1 minute. jesusjnr2020: |

jesusjnr2020:watching with Jesus for one hour how does that translate to Jesus teaching anyone to pray for one hour? I agree people should pray as long as the Holy Spirit strengthens them but we should also remember the instructions of Jesus concerning prayer, do not babble on or ramble on because you think yoy will ve heard by your many words. It is possible that those nights Jesus spent them awake waiting for God's word for God's instruction and directions and not spent talking and talking. |

jesusjnr2020:Mark.12.40 They devour widows' houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. Such men will be punished most severely." Because I have the strength to pray long privately doesn't mean the minimum should be one hour, because even praying the Lord's prayer wouldn't even taken 5minutes. Don't make laws that Jesus did not give |

Dtruthspeaker:Jesus did not ask the disciples to pray for Him, He asked them to watch (be alert). His question when He came was couldn't they watch for Him for one hour? He specifically asked them to "watch and pray", distinguishing between the 2. When you put time consciousness into prayer, you're making the prayer a ritual, not a relationship. And don't read into the Bible what is not there (the way many "christians" love to do). |

The truth about prayer: it's a means to speak with your creator one on one so it's no one's business the time you spend with your God what Jesus condemned is disturbing others or making it a notice-me thing! |
| Re: Does The Length Of A Christian's Daily Prayer Time Matter? by Brenbentondiaz: 12:52pm On Jan 12, 2025 |
MaxInDHouse:Exactly. But people don't consider it prayer if you don't scream for hours on end and let your neighbours know you're a "prayerful christian" that can boldly say "I prayed for 3 hours last night". |

There's something I tried to reason sometimes concerning the way we do things as Christians. It's never the length of time in prayers that makes us a Christian nor make such effective. For example, if we're to make a request (prayer) to our Governor, how long will we take to make our request known? 2. We can even be praying without anybody knowing we're doing so. This may even be more effective than our Pharisee's method. 3. Using the event at Gathesamene as an example is totally wrong. The upcoming events that necessitated that prayer can never be handled by any man. Brenbentondiaz: |

Brenbentondiaz:One can pray the whole day but we must let it be between us and God not between us and neighbours because we are not praying to neighbours rather we are praying to God! Matthew 6:6 |

Brenbentondiaz:So you seriously don't understand "watch with me" in this context meant "pray with me"? It is that hard to grasp or are you are too spiritually blind to see it? Be alert with Jesus in what other sense when Jesus Himself was praying? He also mentioned prayer there to make it easier for the shallow-minded, yet you're still arguing blindly? If you like keep arguing and don't learn, but if you can't pray up to at least an hour as Jesus specifically requested of His disciples, you will never be able to attain a certain dimension in the realm of the Spirit. This is not a matter of showing off but a necessity that the life of the Spirit demands with overcoming temptations and being used by God to manifest His glory as Jesus His disciples did. Relationship is an excuse used by many Christians to abuse and take God and the things of the Spirit for granted. People now feel too big to bow down and worship God in the name of relationship, when Jesus the only begotten Son of God did so and also prayed for hours to His Father on a daily basis. Your relationship with God is only a sacrifice if you don't follow the example and teachings of Jesus who Himself took time seriously with respect to His prayers and those of His apostles as proven on that occasion. You cannot know better than Jesus in that respect. |
