So I tried using Cardtonic on my Google Play and I completely feel robbed. Everything they do is designed to steal from you. And by everything I mean everything.

1. Their Virtual Dollar Card creation fee is 2557.50 Naira (no problem).

2. So I transferred 3k to fund my wallet and they took 5 Naira processing fee (still no problem).

3. Now I went ahead to create the Virtual Dollar Card and they took their fee (great!).

4. Next step is to check my card's details and then try it out on Google Play before funding. Normal thing for other services (right?) but not Cardtonic. The app insisted I must fund my card with $5 or more before I would be able to see my card details (problem started).

5. I transferred 12k Naira to fund my Naira wallet. This time, they took 180 Naira as transfer charges, depositing 11,820.00 Naira 😬 (180 from 12k. Imagine that!)

6. At the rate of 1705 Naira or thereabouts, I was able to buy 7 dollars from them and funded my card.

7. My whole annoyance is that this card didn't work for me on Google Play. Mind you, they promised it works everywhere online.

8. Disappointed, I withdrew my $7 from the card. And guess the rate they gave me? It was a hundred Naira less than when I funded. At the time of writing this, it was 1605 Naira to a Dollar. Selling rate was at 1705 Naira to a Dollar, meaning it's 100 Naira less than I paid.

9. You'd think it ended there, that, that was the end of their scam, but it didn't. They didn't allow complete withdrawal of the whole $7. Their policy is that at least $1 must be left in the card. This left me with $6 withdrawable.

10. You'd think they were done but no, they weren't. In addition, they took $2 out of the $6 for processing the conversion. 🤬

11. Then I was only left with $4 out of the $7. Remember their buying rate is less by a hundred Naira, so that current rate multiplied by $4 gave me back 6420.00 Naira. Recall that I funded the card with 12,173.69 Naira and was able to pull out 6,420.00 Naira.

12. In total, both for card creation and card funding, I transferred 15k Naira to Cardtonic and only managed to get back 6,420 Naira without their product doing what they promised.

This is a scam and they should be sued in a sane country.

Why did I put it in Politics section? The government created the policy that in turn created a need that these crooks are taking advantage of to exploit already suffering Nigerians. If we check, we'd find that they have at least one potbellied politician on their board to insure them from consequences.

I'm thinking we should bring a class action against them. Mainly because their card failed to do what it promises to do. And also for hiding the fact that one must fund card to see card details after already paying for the said card. You already bought the card and they're forcing you to put money on it because they probably know that once you realize that contrary to their claim it doesn't work everywhere, you'd not put your money there. And if you don't put money there, they can't rob you through wallet funding fees, conversion fees, exchange rate differential, and a host of other scammy fees. The whole set up is insincere from the get go.

Nothing can be comparable to conventional bank, until I see big wigs (wealthy) using finitech, ain't taking them serious, only managing them now till I hit it big

All this online virtual cards are all scammers. Chipper is also one of them. They sent me a mail last week that my virtual card has expired that I should renew it. I just hiss card wey I use only once them wan use thier stupid rates kill me.

It's their responsibility to make sure all the various parts they assembled together for their business work well enough to create an overall great experience for their customers.

That's just unacceptable. Whether it them or their partners, responsibility still false on them regardless.

If 180 Naira is the charge on 12k, then 1.5k will be the charge on 100k, but that won't be the case. Charges seem to grow with the amount in the transaction -- when I did 3k, charge was 5 Naira, whereas at 12k it was 180 Naira. Mathematicians can please work out the progression for us.

No excuse for criminality. Don't try to explain it away for them. They're robbing Nigerians. Full stop.

I believe Cardtonic also did this research and still chose to go on partnering with 9PSB. What I do once I find out any fintech has unreasonable rate is to switch. I expected them to take this responsibility. I'm not here feeling robbed by 9PSB, but rather by Cardtonic.

Which card works currently and does not charge exorbitant fees ? Chipper cash nearly killed me last year. $5 for card activation fee and it expires after a year. Their dollar rate is so high too sometimes more than #200 the normal rate. And you have to pay $1 for monthly maintenance.

I just checked now, and they have cancelled my virtual dollar card without expiration. I tried to access the virtual dollar card and was told to create a new one. What's this?

I have Grey and agree it's a great service. Virtual card creation and activation on their platform is however $5 total, not free.

Those are rippers..... Sorry.... I say from experience with them...

Forget the recent changes backed by corporate greed. It worked marvellously since I started using it for online transactions. Alibaba, Amazon etc. It's good for payment of international duties and levies.
