Sitting on his knees would've sufficed... on his manhood is distasteful and unacceptable

The groom should have been made to bury his face in his Mother in law's tits 7 times.

FrOM tHE video I just watched, that might not be the groom's father, but the groom himself. It's the custom of Esan people when giving their daughter out for marriage, that her father makes her sit 11 times on her husband's laps.

So, if that is indeed the groom's father, perhaps the groom isn't around and the father is standing (that is) marrying for his son.

Some things need to change. Not because the intention is bad, but because the method is."

No. Some things need to change not because the intention is bad but because the newer generation have become terribly corrupt. They see perversion in everything. This is an old tradition that has gone on without issues until this generation.

The Bible says, to the corrupt, everything is corrupt.

A wedding ceremony in Edo State has stirred online discussions after a video surfaced showing a bride sitting on her father-in-law's lap multiple times. shocked This act, rooted in Edo tradition, symbolizes the bride being handed over to her new family. The father of the bride typically sits her on the groom’s father’s lap seven times as a ceremonial gesture of transfer and a plea for the groom’s family to care for her.

While many defended the practice as an integral part of their culture, some netizens expressed discomfort with the method, arguing that it might not resonate well in modern times. One user commented, "Some things need to change. Not because the intention is bad, but because the method is." shocked

Others passionately upheld the tradition, emphasizing its symbolic value. Another commenter wrote, "This is normal in our tradition. It’s called handing over; it’s not just symbolic but a heartfelt gesture to ensure the bride is received with love and care by her new family."

The video has sparked a wider conversation about balancing cultural preservation with evolving societal norms.

Many people enjoy this part of the ceremony..
They all look forward to it even.

That's the irony of the whole thing.

During my time, my wife na from esan Edo State. nA my laps Dem do am 7 times not my papa own o..he only paid the bride price on my behalf as tradition demands.......gaskiya
Yes modernization has watered it down and changed in some families but the original traditional way is she is placed by the elders on the FIL 7 times before he in turn hands her over and places her on the son as acceptance into her new family. This only goes to show that the family have entrusted the care of their daughter to the head of the family (FIL) and should anything go wrong he will be Heald accountable as the head.

That's an insightful info about the Esan culture and marriage ceremony.
