A Nigerian Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Angelo Chidi Unegbu, recently shared a cautionary story about a marriage that fell apart after the husband accused his wife of infidelity due to a dream. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

In a Facebook post on Thursday, January 9, Fr. Unegbu warned against relying on dreams or prophecies when making relationship decisions. He recounted how a man, after dreaming that his wife was carrying a mattress on her head, was convinced she was unfaithful. His mother, interpreting the dream, further fueled his suspicion, leading to ongoing arguments and eventually the collapse of the marriage.

Fr. Unegbu emphasized that building relationships or making marital decisions based on dreams, visions, or prophecies can often create a foundation of mistrust and suspicion. He cautioned against letting such beliefs influence marriage decisions, as they can lead to unnecessary conflict.

He concluded his message by stressing the importance of making marital decisions with clear judgment, acknowledging that marriage is a human endeavor and not something determined by supernatural forces.

“Marriage is a human matter. Spirits do not marry or arrange marriages for humans. Even the Bible says that heavenly bodies are unaware of marriage,” Fr. Unegbu remarked.

It is advised that couples take their stand on divorce or separation at the onset of the marriage. Most marriages are only standing on the decision of the couple against divorce. Without discipline and unanimous decision, most marriages are positioned to end under mysterious circumstances. Only those who are willing and ready to endure and tolerate each other that will be able to overcome. Most couples live as strangers in their homes.

2. While the South leads with marriage abandonment rates since many still consider divorce a taboo! To most in the South, a man abandoning his wife and children is better than him filling legal divorce papers. Many of your churches are filled to overflow with women who spend their days praying for the men who abandoned them to return; these crowds are cash cows for pastors looking to fill seat in their churches, abi no be so? 😩😩😩😩😩😩

3. The numbers prove these things. Look around at the number of abandoned children on the streets of Nigeria, to begin with, the number of single-mother situations in the south and you get a good picture of how equally damaged the family situation has become down in the South as it is in the North.
