Lagos – A man has been arrested after he allegedly "kidnapped himself" and demanded a 2 million naira ransom from his brothers whom he labelled "stingy fellows", a report says.
According tonaij.com, Samuel Ani, a coffin dealer in Enugu State, faked his kidnapping and hid himself for six days in a bush while he made telephone calls to his two brothers telling them he had been abducted and that ransom was required to get him out of the purported kidnappers den.
He also convinced them he would be killed if the ransom was not paid.
A police spokesperson who confirmed the incident said the case was reported to the State Police Command, which then mobilised its anti-kidnapping unit.
Ani was however arrested after "some amount of money was sent across to an account number provided by the kidnappers". A girl who was sent to cash in the sum of 100 000 naira was located by the police and "was tracked and arrested".
"Her revelation led to the arrest of Samuel who disclosed that he was not kidnapped but that he kidnapped himself so that his wealthy younger brothers can pay money for ransom which he will use to sort out his business dealings", police said.
