It's your sentimentality that has given you colour blindness. It isn't my fault if you fail to distinguish between a bad practice and an abnormal one. A bad practice maybe be prevalent even in an advance or average society but an abnormal practice/behaviour can only be prevalent in a sick society. Tutors hitting pupils in the course of one on one teaching bad as it may is still prevalent in the Nigerian society of today. The extent/force of the hitting is what people can debate about as acceptable or not.
If she had a malicious intent, at least she wouldn't have done that in the presence of other adults in the same room with her. One adult next to her appeared totally unperturbed while the one recording didn't even make an effort to stop her.
NORMAL human beings would have attempted to stop her or intervene if what she was doing was ABNORMAL. Clearly, those other adults weren't incapable to intervene.

Thank God the video is there and everyone can see what exactly happened. Yes, she was heavy handed which was very wrong. But seeing that it was during a one on one teaching session which probably was the teacher going extra mile to help him get his work right, I as his parent won't be too mad at her. He didn't sustain any injury nor was he crying as to show excessive pain. This shows that there was a level of restraint from her although her actions are unacceptable.
There was no shouting, insults or cursing from the teacher. This shows she was still collected and in control of the situation despite not getting the expected result from the kid. She's at fault though and more should be demanded from her but it shouldn't be an overkill.
Prejudice and sentimentality can make one alter proportionate judgement. Intentions and actions are things a good judge consider before delivering a verdict.

Lol. Aunty Buda, a vast majority of Nigerian pupils were subjected to this kind of treatment from their teachers, especially the playful ones, and they came out quite alright. It is outdated and high handed but usually gets the job done. However, there are other equally effective means of teaching a pupil who is slow to learn. So, while I disagree with her actions, it shouldn't be an overkill as someone here mentioned. From her body language her intentions are far from malicious
