Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Jatau Dismissed For Misconduct, Abuse of Power by DesChyko(op): 6:59am On Jan 11, 2025
The Nasarawa State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has approved the demotion and dismissal of Chief Magistrate Emmanuel A. Jatau, who previously served in Masaka, Nasarawa State.

Jatau has been downgraded from Chief Magistrate II (GL 15) to Senior Magistrate I (GL 14) and relieved of all magisterial duties.

Meanwhile, the decision followed a recommendation by the Committee for Appointments, Promotions, and Discipline (CAPD).

The disciplinary action was prompted by a petition from Nigerian human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, submitted in August 2024 to the Honourable Chief Judge of Nasarawa State.

Effiong accused Jatau of judicial misconduct, forgery, illegality, and abuse of power.

He stated that the Magistrate Court in Masaka bore an official filing stamp from the Federal High Court (FHC) in Lagos, signed by a staff member of the FHC, Lagos, identified as M. Tofowomo-Adegbite (Mr.), and dated January 8, 2024.

Nice. Illegal arrest and detention are very wrong.

Why not dismissal? Which example are they setting when even a magistrate judge is this corrupt? Gross abuse of Judicial process and the courts are rife despite the CJN directive on resumption. Imagine those supposed to be abdicating on Judicial matters to be this corrupt. Nigeria is still far from political redemption.

The judiciary no doubt does not have a shortage of manpower, so why is this corrupt entity being demoted instead of sacked?? It’s beginning to look like Gani Fawehinmi reincarnated in Akwa Ibom State. cool

Our major problem is Judiciary, President Buhari saw it but people stood up against him.

Clean up the Judiciary and jail the useless corrupt ones and see trust back in Nigeria.

IMO state is suffering because of back Judiciary pronunciation

Many magistrates are guilty of helping police with their underhanded tactics.

Hopefully more of them will get the stick.

huh

I was not surprised when Farotimi said Nigeria justice system is very corrupt..

There are some honest people amongst them, but when the amount of corrupt judges or magistrate outnumbered the honest one, it becomes so difficult for the system to develop..

We will continue to pray for our mother land

He saw this by making a shariah court judge a CJN? Or after the witch hunt of Onnoghen?
