Can you imagine, it's no longer helping her son to learn.
All these advocacy won't help, it brings about a resentment community. The discipline received from my teachers mould me to become somebody, today!
Anyway, the Yorubas says "bami na omo mi, ko denu olomo "!

A mother slapping her child is said to have assaulted her child. All those ADs against violence in the homes are there to help make people like you sensitive about such things and quickly run to report it when you see it because such things are not normal or should no longer be seen as normal. undecided

So, it is only when someone is being killed that you would consider it a crime. 😩😩😩😩😩
Didn’t you read the part were I said it is wrong.
I think the correct word is ‘ignorant’, not ‘wrong’.
More that 60% of the Nigerian population is uneducated and would disagree with you.
They do it, doesn’t mean they love their children any less. That was what I meant by ’doing it from a place of love’.
Why am I even explaining this to you 🤷🏻‍♀️💁🏻‍♀️
Come back when you’re more matured abeg.

Is the victim in question a property of the school business such that any crimes or violations of his basic human right should be handled not by the police who are in charge of enforcing rights and law in the country but by the school/headmistress? undecided

2. Is the complainant a property of the school rather than a citizen of the country whose law clearly states that assault is against the Law and should be reported? What in the world is up with you people ? undecided
I am done with you.

I am sure you understand what I am saying, but you hate to lose arguments, so you pretend not to understand.

And you believe her. This hardly happens, slap may not be the cause unless certified by medical extermination, this remain assumption.
Traumatic Ear deafness is a thing.

Even listening to loud speakers in a noisy environment for sometime is enough to make you go deaf, let alone the pressure enough to puncture the tympanic membrane that can be gotten from sudden slaps like the one being given to the boy.

1. It is not simply wrong but, in fact, a crime that should be reported; a case should be instituted to ensure it is not repeated. undecided

2. Ignorance is not reason enough for anyone to think it OK to violently assault another person; you would know this from the fact that nobody would sit back and accept being assaulted by any third party. Yes, even the ignorant man balks at being assaulted by someone else. So, ignorance is not the problem. undecided

3. You pretend to be more mature yet you have not been able to figure out that one's man's idea of love is not necessarily another man's idea of love. The reason why we have the Law is to help define what should be acceptable behavior/rights for everyone regardless of our individual notions about such things as love. Nothing bad or unheard of if she needs help and looks for online donations, she's a hardworking widow. She wasn't begging for alms before now, nobody knew her before now. She didn't report to the school or police, she hasn't asked you for help yet. Why hating on her?

I totally agree with you. Her sack is enough, again her intention was to train the guy but the method was wrong which her employer should be held responsible.
True. She was too high handed, we can all agree on that. Times have changed and people have to adapt to those changes to avoid trouble like this. You don't go slapping little kids in the name of trying to teach them. Nothing will enter their head.

The mum even said it is against school policy to beat the children so who gave her the temerity to be dealing such heavy slaps without fear of repercussions? I suspect the school has no such policy. She is just trying to cover up for her employers who failed to monitor how their teachers handle the wards under their care.

You talk like a child.
Taking the time to put bullets on your bread-and-butter points doesn’t cut anything relatable in our society.

You obviously don't have a child.

I am a product of one of the most prestigious and oldest secondary schools in Nigeria.
I attended Mount Saint Gabriel's secondary school Makurdi.

We were disciplined. But no teacher made us deaf...

I am very sure you can still hear so I am sure no teacher beat your hearing abilities out of you...
But you want the hearing abilities of your child to be beaten out of him....

This woman failed her son abeg. I don't know if she is a weakling, or if it is just condition that has made so 'gentle'.

As for the school, they need to be questioned. Why did it have to take a social media uproar for them to take action, even after the pastor reported??

This kid was failed by those who should have protected him.
Failed her son ke !! aunty what should she have done, pull out a samurai sword or hire a terminator

I guess these whole social media thing is about fakeness, hypocrisy and we give tew much credence to nonsense,

The teacher errred no doubt, but the reaction is overboard because 100% of those taken up the case against the woman experienced severe punishment even than that, both from parent and school teachers

Every region/race has it own peculiarities, all these therapy and frank edo dialogue to correct a child is not meant for Naija breeds, discipline is sancrosanct if it didnt kill our grandparent, our parent ,Us then why will it sudden kill our children now ... moderation is all needed

what deterrence are we sending to teachers now ..... hands off or look away

You are confused. Only you are having conflicting opinions on a single subject.

That's a struggling powerless widow. You saw the part where it was mentioned that her phone seized by the school on Tuesday and released on Thursday and the woman still tried not to implicate the management. That's what happens when someone is in vulnerable position. You can't understand
I am having no conflict of opinions. My stance is arrest and remand in prison is an overkill. She was dismissed, and this is appropriate punishment. If not that the case has already gone far, she surely would not have laid her hand on any child in the next school that employs to avoid a repetition of what led to her dismissal in her previous place of employment.

As for the mother, I still insist she failed her child. Why did she have to go to her pastor to report? Why didn't she go to the school authorities directly, or if she doesn't want issues, confront the woman herself? Which right thinking parent will see this and keep silent? It was likely the pastor that insisted on reporting to the school because she was too cowardly to face her own colleague at work. Vulnerability has nothing to do with this

Everything about Nigerians is sensationalism.

We have this repulsive habit of giving maximum energy to minor issues.

A primary school teacher goes overboard with the discipline of a child, yes she did wrong. Ordinarily, her sack should be enough of a disciplinary measure while the school puts more efforts into the reorientation of its staff. But trust Nigerians to always get emotional and overly animated.

Police has entered. Government ministry has entered. Bloggers have now entered. We'll end up seeing dozens of articles related to this one issue on the front page for the next one week huh.
You are absolutely sick in the head if you think this is a minor issue, just recently was it in the news that a child was beaten to death by a teacher I don't think it is up to two months sef too.

A teacher repeatedly abusing a child to the point that if it wasn't leaked it wouldn't have stopped to add with he had to be hospitalised as a result of the slap, if you watched the slap sef if nah you dem slap like that you go dey nurse your hear ni, you are sick in the head se trying to trivialise this.

Useless animaals if you like abuse so much when you born your own children beat them to death if you like nah your problem, but if you do am to another person pikin make e no be say nah person like me else you will be fuxkkked up so bad ehn you will think it is more than a slap.

The abuser had been doing that for ages, beating little children in terrible ways.
The abuser as well as all teachers had been warned against it, but she still continued. One could argue that she may be a manipulative/aggressive person that may 'destroy' her colleague's (the assaulted boy's mother) source of living if challenged about it.

The assaulted boy's mother is poor, and potentially weakened and fearful, hence, she even reported to her pastor and not even directly to her co-employer with the abuser.

Try to be realistic a little...
.
Well, what you said is true. I think the woman was afraid not to lose her source of living, but notwithstanding, if I were in her shoes, I would have done something about it early enough and not wait until my child's health is impaired. Fear is disastrous!

Yes, slapping may be odd. But punishment remains - a corrective measure. Therefore,no one should rule out punishment as a corrective antidote for learning.

The Lady should have been reprimanded than taken to gender office.
