I like your question. How did the sender get your number. 😂 That's what first came to my mind but the time I read your contribution, I said no need to ask again......

Anyway, no harm as long as it's from the same person's account name you are sending it back to......Please send it.....

A friend mistakenly sent money to a wrong account....a palmpay account from Moniepoint since almost 5months ago.

He rushed to his bank with a letter of retriever and the bank promised to work on it. They did with the collaboration of Palmpay but discovered that there's no single fund in the person's account again. He withdrew that money very fast and abandoned the account.

However, there's something I learnt from him while he was explaining to me when it happened and after going to report at the bank. The refund of that money is still at the discretion of the receiver even though it's wrongly sent to the receiver's account. The only action the receiving bank can take is to put PND on the account to avoid withdrawal if the money is still inside or there is enough balance to pay the sender. The receiver's bank must still seek and appeal to you to return the money back to the sender.....

This is outrageous. The money my friend sent mistakenly was 36k to a wrong palm pay account from Moniepoint.

See the screenshot of the whole drama below.....

How did the person get your phone number?

Anyway, I don't see any risk in returning the money back to SAME account number.

Someone had mistakenly credited me last Dec.. He missed a number and the money was sent to me..

He called me for a refunded.. But I had to first shout at him not to make that mistake again.. I refunded the money back to him..

When he called to thank me, I shunned him down and switched off the call...

I was just in my one of moods swing that day 😅
What's the essence of the unnecessary shout?

Because you want to return it, you're shouting like a mad Lion.

If you wanna do good, why not just do good and still maintain civility.

Inform your bankers which would in turn place the value on lien ; the bank would return the money on request from the sender's bankers which would shield you from any legal consequences thereafter.

My experience. This is why few people here should t drag us into tribalism. Sometime last year I bought few baffs (clothes) worth 190k. When I wanted to make the transfer the seller called an opay number that supposed to end with 08…he mentioned 80. I made the transfer only to wait for over 30 minutes for him to confirm alert. I rechecked again and found out that he made the mistake. So I added 0 to the opay account and someone in Ibadan picked the call. I pleaded with him that it was a mistake but he said I’m a 419. The next day I sent him a message and pleaded with him again,,he told me that he will need to go to town and check. So I believed him. Behold the guy called me back that he saw the money and he doesn’t have a smart phone and that he needed a friend’s smart phone to do that. I said ok.

Few hirs later he called me again and said I should send him my account details and I deed.

He sent me the money. I had to call him to ask how much it’ll take him to fix his phone and he said 15k. I sent him 50k to add up and buy a new one. Omo the guy just Dey shout for background. Guess what? I went to Ibadan for a golf tournament and invited him. He came and we had drinks and food. Today we are friends. The guy na Yoruba boy oooo.
It pays to do good. Nice one 😊🤞🏽

How can one confirm the correct account number from which the funds came? I assume you'd need to contact your bank for this.
If the alert you got does not show the account name and the first three digits and in the last 3 digits of the account number, use the mobile app of your bank to know the account details.

This is right, I think there are legal Implications for a bank to tamper with your account in the name of reversing a wrong transfer from a 3rd party, without due consultations with the account owner.

You should inform your bank so the money will be returned to original account where the money come back from and not another account.

The thread is about the possible risk involved in returning money wrongly sent to your account. Not whether he should return or not return the money.

This is how you always comment off-point +nonsense and still garner fake likes from your moronic zombie supporters. grin

This can be a proceeds of crime like kidnapping which can get you into a big problem!!
If the same account number that sent the money to you is where you're sending it back, that fine!!!
Anything apart from that , just simply involve the police and a court other!!
Anything apart from that dont!! Even if they say keep 100k and send the balance, don't do it!!
Cause that 100k can put you in alot of trouble that you won't be able to explain

Don't send any money back especially if it's much ...it might be stolen from another person's account or card they quickly stole and there's no way for you to verify the source account number ...

Bankers tried to use my account a while back to steal money, which I believe is from a dormant account... they called me that it was a mistake that I should please send it to them and send an account number with obviously a different account name

èmí street.... I told the wèrèy to tell the teller that posted to do reversal from his system.
The werey started giving excuses that it was end of day and system had been shut from head office...

I was like..." Baba if u take too long, I go use this money buy dollar sharp sharp".....
Many banks like Opay and PalmPay use phone number as account number, so anyone who has your account number automatically has your phone number....

My brother in law had money sent to his Opay in December, he thought I was the one (I had promised him some money) when I told him I wasn't the sender, he said the sender will call, I asked how the sender will get his phone number, that was when I realized that his account number is his phone number...

Sometimes you should ask questions before judging issues.

You are confidently speaking out of ignorance

Call your bank customer service if you can't go to bank at the time. Do not send back the money by yourself. Ask the bank to reverse the money especially if it's huge money.

Don't panic, as long as the account you are to send the money to is the same account that sent the money to you. But if the person wants you to send the money to a different account, involve the police.

If it was a POS transaction and the account identity is unclear, involve the police before returning the money to any account provided by the person.
This is bad advice.
How you go advice person to enter police net just like that.
If you go police station, you must drop money.
The smart thing to do is to go to your bank and tell them to reserve the transaction.
