what of the language? If you understand classical yoruba an Okun man can not sell you with his language. Okun version of yoruba language is just like ijebu or ijesha. It is only Oyo state that speak classical yoruba.
they aren't Yoruba the same way Ikwerre isn't Igbo

Which Igbo parts of Kogi will not be left behind?. Be specific pls so we can have an intelligent discuss.
I get you, but the better question is what region of kogi are mostly igbos; and to me, that is kogi east and most parts of the south. Igbos are in every region of kogi, but mostly more populated in the south and east. We can debate more, but excuse me if my response are late.

I think the topic needs more willing debate.

Where is Chief Sunday Awoniyi, foremost perm sec and Aro of Mopa? He should have been first on that list.
Firstly, why are you bringing the issue of this man here? This man and his contemporary, Chief Daniyan sold Okun people into underdevelopment.

I have a very bitter comment against this topic. There is another popular Retired General who is into oil (crude oil) business several years ago, they sold their people into underdevelopment and slavery. He was in PDP, a supporter of Ekwueme against OBASANJO in 1998.

Yeye Bello no try for Kogi
Okun land has been glorified villages for a very long time. The last time I visited those areas was about 9 years ago.

I have written about them before. Several years ago, while in the University, they (Kwarra & Kogi) don't attend Oodua Student Association. They said they are Northerners. They are very reserved and inactive as students. I never knew that it is because they
have been caged for a long time. They separated themselves because of huge bursary and other benefits they enjoyed as northerners.

I am suspecting this topic to be an indirectly sponsored topic posted by 7pm.

For years, I have written about them when those two chiefs who claimed working with Ahmadu Bello was the best thing that happened to their lives were alive.

Anyways, Congratulations to the Ikweres and other Igbos in Rivers state.

If you refer to those on the bank of Niger River as Igbo, they are actually of Yoruba descent from Ufe now Ife just like the throne of Onitsha. Obi of Onitsha affirms that last year, 2024. Just Google it.

In no particular order. As a Yoruba man from Kogi, I noticed there's less discussion about the Okun people. So I made this compilation of famous Okun people. We're one Yoruba people, this is not a competition against any other subgroup. Also, none Yoruba people should keep off, this thread is not for disunity, but just one more glory of the Yoruba people.

That's an impressive list of distinguished folks of Okun-Yoruba descent. I used to think the British-Nigerian co-founder of the iconic music group, Light House Family 'Tunde Baiyewu is paternally from Abeokuta in Ogun State but he's right here under Kogi State. A younger sister of his Kofo (who I know) is former President Olusegun Obasanjo's biological daughter married to a White guy. Sam Adeyemi is another surprise here... That's mad cool.

Yinka Dare (who is from Kabba but was born in 1972 in Kano. He painfully passed on in 2004 in New Jersey) played in the U.S. Collegiate basketball for George Washington University in the United States back from the early 1990s (long before we ever heard of the Bam Adebayos or the Giannis Adetokunbos of today).

Because of his very tall height at 7 ft tall, he was seen by American NBA analysts as the next big replacement for the iconic 2-time NBA MVP, Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon of the Houston Rockets after being drafted into the NBA, but his sudden death on January 9, 2004 at Englewood, New Jersey truncated that. Yinka Dare hailed from Kabba in the current Kogi State. He has a British-born biological older brother named Michael. I actually personally knew both of them from back in the day. Yinka Dare's commanding memories will remain.

OK, I found two good links. Read more about Yinka Dare right BELOW.

=>http://www.nba.com/playerfile/yinka_dare/index.html

=>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yinka_Dare

The iconic Chief Sunday Awoniyi who was the FIRST EVER Yoruba man to become the Chairman of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) in the 2000s till he passed on. His first son was also the past Deputy Governor of Kogi State when Governor Wada was in charge of Kogi State.

I also know of the seasoned TV and media personality Babajide Kolade Otitoju and a TV political analyst Gbola Oba who are both from Kogi State. The badass Gbola Oba was born in Lagos State though but is actually from Kogi.

Indeed, looking at the names here from a bird's eye view, Yoruba folks of Kogi State are NO pushovers. They are absolutely well-read and accomplished folks from the music maestro Art Alade (Dare Art Alade's biological father), to Yinka Dare of George Washington University and the U.S. NBA, to Tolu Arotile (the FIRST ever female combat helicopter pilot of the Nigerian Air Force in 2019 who actually flew on combat missions against terrorists), and more.
Also, late Chief Silas Bamidele Daniyan, Ex-Minister of National Planning

That's how some of you come to the public place like Nairaland to display your stupidity for everyone to see. What do you mean there's no Yoruba in Kogi state?

You no see Yetunde, you no see Gbenro, you no see Deji, you no see Adéyemi, you no see Nike for that list? Are those not Yoruba names?

Kogi state is the only Nigerian state that shared boundaries with about 10 other states. That means the state is a cauldron of different tribes.

You're just being a dunderhead!

I am from Kogi State and I'm proudly Yoruba!

Why are you barking online like a public dog. Why can't you pass your message to him without insults.

For the records, there are not Yorubas in Kogi so stop deluding yourself.

You obvioslyy have little or no knowledge about Kogi and I know you have never stepped your foot in the state because you would have known that bearing Yoruba names does not mean you are Yoruba because I know Ebiras, Igalas and other tribes in Kogi who bear Yoruba names and they are 100% not Yorubas.

I know people who bear British names in Nigeria and that does not mean they are British.

Why can't people respect others when they do not belong in the major tribes. Igbos dey claim Ikwere only for Yorubas to take the foolish route of claiming Okun
There are hundreds of tribes in Nigeria and Okun is just one of them.

Get it right: There is no Okun person from Kogi who has ever denied their Yoruba roots. The truth is that they all trace their ancestry to Ile-Ife in Osun State, just like every other Yoruba subgroup. Yoruba people, wherever they are found around the world, take pride in their heritage, culture, and roots. From Nigeria to Benin Republic, Ghana, Togo, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago, and beyond, all indigenous Yoruba people in each of these countries proudly affirm their Yoruba identity with confirmed ancestral ties to Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. There is no controversy about it.

Now, can the same be said of the Ikweres? The truth is, the vast majority of them claim not to be Igbo, regardless of the fact that an Ikwere man is currently the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo. As far as I know, Wike and Fubara have never claimed to be Igbo, and there are many others like them who clearly assert that they are not connected to the Igbo people in any way.

Look, nobody really cares whether the Ikweres choose to call themselves Igbo or not. What we are telling highly tribalistic Igbo people like you is that you should respect the views of those Ikweres and others who assert that they are not Igbo! Why must you force your 'Igboness' on them if they don’t want to be Igbo? Why is it that Yoruba people do not force their 'Yorubaness' onto the Itsekiris, even though some Itsekiris identify as Yoruba while others do not? The Yoruba people simply do not care about what the Itsekiris choose to call themselves; the Yoruba are beyond such narrow-mindedness!

The Okun-Yoruba of Kogi are proud Yoruba people, just like others, and they have never called themselves anything other than Yoruba. So, Emeka, I hope you understand the point now.

Firstly, they are northerners because Kogi and Kwara are northernern states but you failed geography in school woefully which is why you did not know.
Secondly, the Yorubas have never and will never accept Kogi as Yorubas and you know this. Why attend O'odua meeting where you would be treated with disdain and insulative snide remarks are made to you or about you just because you do not belong there.
Thirdly, why can't you approach your own state for you bursary instead of hatred and envy for Kogi and Kwara as if it was Kogi and Kwara that told your governor to be stealing your own bursary.
