Having a child is what is selfish. You do not consult the child nor get permission before bringing him into existence. Having a child when you don't have the resources to provide him with at least the basics for a good life is what is selfish. This boy suffered mental problems for 12 years and probably never got any treatment likely because his parents are poor and could not afford it. He suffered it for 12 whole years .... just imagine the mental torment of having this thing in your brain 24/7 and then 12 years of it for that matter. The boy took his own life... not someone else's.

That life belonged to him from before he was born and he had always had the right to end it of his own volition. He never signed a contract with anyone so it always belonged to him. Tagging his final act of taking his life as a selfish one is not having an understanding of the application of the word selfish. 😩😩😩

Nigerians are to blame for why the health care system(mental health included) has remained dilapidated for over 6 decades. Their disregard for the welfare of their society, communities, and in turn their children is the reason why those who suffer from mental illness are unable to receive the treatment they require.

If you're above 30, you will be excluded or exempted and be given exemption or exclusion letter, instead of discharge letter

I thinks it's a case of officially his documents is showing that he is under 30 but in actuality he was 34.

Yeah you are right, there is no hope for this country as it is getting worse every year, but we don't need to give up. As for me I have been job hunting for some time now, I lost my job some few months bk. It is not easy in where in Naija for now, but we just need to keep pushing. My little advice though.

Not giving up will not cause opportunities to fall from the sky or force job openings for the millions of Nigerians who have never had jobs in their whole lives. 😩😩😩

Yeah, that is how wicked how politicians and those in power are. They don't care about the masses in all aspects. It is so painful that the young man ended his life this way. Nigeria has really frustrated so many people and is still frustrating many now. Am praying to God that one day I will leave this Naija.

You are right to some extent from your first point, but I think the politicians are the ones causing division among the masses using either tribalism, religion, ethnic, etc

To your second point, I don't see the problems being solved anytime soon, it is just like survival of the fittest. So is like every body is just trying to survive in this harsh economy apart from some few.

I didn't read anything about the father. Probably not in the picture for wtv reasons he should have been the one to encourage the son. Women can't handle male children properly. What has a recent graduate got to do with taking care of the family what even gave him that idea if not that the family failed in the first place. Don't get it wrong by failing I don't mean finances cos not everyone will have it on top at the same time. Some early some later or much later. If the daily was structured right in love that young man would have still been alive and not disputing the fact he's a weak kid probably more vulnerable due to his mental health challenges. That is where the man would have stepped in and shown him 1001 reasons to stay alive if not for anything but for the sake of the family's legacy into the next generation. All the mom was saying were just baseless encouragement that ended up adding more pressure on the guy but I don't fault her. She did what she thought was best for her son and her on had no mind or will to see beyond his present situation. Suicide is dumb, selfish and a total waste

Anyway, I still stand by my opinion that suicide is a cowards exit. He could have created a situation to donate his organs to those who really want to live instead of wasting everything, living for nothing and benefiting nobody but his selfish urge to die.

But you feel he must have continued to exist in that hell for his supposed loved ones to continue to feel OK with themselves, abi? He should have continued to live in that hell for their sake denying himself the relief he longed for all of that while?

He never asked to be born into the condition he had to live. He never asked for parents who could not cater to his health and mental issues. One does not first need to be diagnosed to realize that one is mentally ill. Like the common cold, people are typically aware of the presence of mental illness even without a formal education of such. Suicide is a typical symptom of Depression, a mental illness. His mother's words are evidence enough that the boy killed himself because of the likely presence of mental problems over the years.

You must not be above 30 as at when you graduate.

Some departments might have issues compiling list of their students to the senate. Some might be struggling with accreditation issues, or the candidate himself might have unpaid fees which would prevent him from kickstarting his clearance. All these might take a couple of years.

But nysc is only interested in how old you were when you graduated, and not your current age.
