one thing I find interesting about Lagos, Ogun and Oyo is that there are hardly any hills. I am from ondo state, and every where is hilly. You can't see the next town even if you climb a hill. It's mind blowing for me. |

PulaPower:Majority of those brown roof home's in Ibadan you call ancestral home's were built in the 40s 50s during the time Ibadan was the capital of south west region there are not 200 yrs as you claim, and Ibadan was not the only city building home's during that period, Enugu was building, port Harcourt was building, Kaduna was building, calabar was building, you won't find as much brown roofs in these cities like Ibadan cause they have renovated some of those buildings , some demolished and those too poor to renovate or demolish still have those homes with the brown roofs, Ibadan still have majority of the homes like that because majority of them abandoned those homes and are living in Lagos claiming to be Lagos indigenes they don't visit home their children see themselves as lagosians, others are too poor to renovate them |

PulaPower:Describing Ibadan as a 'brown roof' city depicts the years of civilization in the city. Most of the brown roof areas are ancestral areas while the larger part are modern with modern aesthetics. Some who tend to lampoon Ibadan do not know that the city is even bigger than some of their states. Ibadan shares some semblance with Florence, Italy, as cities of civilization during various era. Florence used to be home to philosophers, scientists, great artists during the Middle Ages; it was a city many around the world rever. Ibadan was the city that heralded Nigeria's civilization. The city had the first television station in Nigeria, the first University in Nigeria, the first stadium in Nigeria, the Cocoa House which was once the tallest building in Nigeria, the first teaching hospital in Nigeria ( which was patronized by the Saudi royal family) and other firsts. Such a city cannot be compared to cities just getting to be known not too long ago |

What most people from the east don't know is that both the yorubas and the Hausas have their architectural design just like the Europeans. When you go to most cities in the north and you are in the ancient part of these cities, you will notice the ancient part of these cities consist of old houses with a particular architectural design, likewise most cities in south west. These is an evidence of early civilisation. Europe, which is the most civilised continent in the world today has alot of old cities due to the fact that there was an ancient civilisation in the past. The difference between Europe and Southwest is that most of the old buildings in Europe is being renovated, maintained and redesigned in other to look attractive and to promote tourism. But in south west these old buildings are not maintained or even abandoned and are left to dilapidate. If the people of southwest can exhibit the culture of renovating and maintaining these old buildings in other to make it conducive for living just like the Europeans most cities in southwest would look so beautiful. These are examples of yoruba architectural designs. These architectural designs are part of the yoruba heritage that needs to be preserved.

PulaPower:Except you are being economical with the truth. 200 years and the owners don't have descendants that are supposed to renovate the properties? Better come up with something convincing. I don't have anything against the way anyone choose to live their live, but justification for a seeming case of undeniable neglect is a no for me. |
