A Nigerian pastor and his wife are facing backlash after reportedly misusing around ₦5 million donated by well-meaning Nigerians to fund their daughter’s surgery. The funds, collected over a two-month period, were supposed to cover the urgent medical procedure, but the couple revealed that the money was spent, with no surgery yet to take place. The story came to light in a viral video circulating on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). In the video, the pastor and his wife were interviewed by a man who had helped facilitate the fundraising effort through his network. He explained that generous donations had amounted to ₦5 million to support the surgery, but when pressed, the pastor’s wife admitted that the funds were gone and the surgery had not been carried out.

The shocking revelation sparked outrage online, with many viewers expressing their disappointment and demanding accountability. Some reactions included:

The State or Federal Government should please takeover the child from them and do the needful because the child is a citizen of this country and has right to life.

They should be handed over to the law for questioning and prosecution, just imagine Man of God.

The Government should please look into the activities/settings of all the religious bodies and so called men of God because majority 95% of them are due to hunger, laziness, fraud, sexuality, cultism, greediness, extravagance lifestyle, lies, confusion, joblessness.

So unfortunate their actions will now affect the real needy people in town.

This is so pathetic, am worried because people conscience is dead. I don’t think the well to do ones will be ready to waste their resources in this hard times.

Sell off all their properties and use it as trust fund for the child, theirs children if many.

I said it that even some of our politicians are still good people because average Nigerians are corrupt by nature, be it cleric or followers.

I don't know why, but I hate Pastors with passion.
