2022: Nigeria cannot end insecurity without State Police - Wike (Throwback) by chisomkachy(op): 9:56pm On Jan 19, 2025
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said that Nigeria cannot end insecurity ravaging the country without establishing state police system.

He also said that without intelligence, the war against terrorism could not be won.

Wike, who is a presidential aspirant in the Peoples Democratic Party, said these on Thursday, when he visited Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to meet with delegates to the party’s National Convention scheduled for the end of the month.

These were contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to Oyo State Governor, Taiwo Adisa, on Thursday.

The Rivers State Governor said he believed strongly in restructuring, adding that state police was a panacea to the insecurity challenges facing the country.

Wike said that Nigerians were aware of his views on restructuring and state police, noting that any country that practices true federalism knows that policing and intelligence gathering are key to surmounting insecurity challenges.

He said, “Nigerians know my views, as I believe in restructuring and state Police. Let nobody deceive you, we cannot stop insecurity in this country without state police.

“In all the countries that practice true federalism, the Federal Government has its own police, the state has its own police. Local councils have theirs too. Go to those countries, the police know who is living where and that is how we can bring down insecurity. If you like, go to America and buy 50 Tucano jets, it won’t work. Who are you bombing? Intelligence is key. You must have intelligence.”

Funny enough, I was against Atiku for not placating him with a VP position after the Primary not knowing that Atiku was evading atomic bomb. Now I know his true nature.

Wike is a sick man!
He's not a type of Leader good for emulation.

Someone can save this, after Tinubu 8years as the no1 Citizen, Wike would lose his political relevance and power.

That man is being used, unfortunately for him, he thinks he's wise. Nah Mumu man be that 😂

State police is the only way to go now at this point in time. The rate of crime and insecurity is just too high. So having state police will be of greater advantage to the nation

I agree with all your points.
Wike thinks he's very powerful until they remove the carpet under him.
The guy is just a power hungry maniac.

I laugh hard at him every time I see him carrying out his madness.😂

He's just a tool in the hand of a Master. Once the Master is done with his works, Wike will be thrown in the oblivion.

Although state policing seems like the most viable solution to Nigeria's insecurity, I think it'll be a double edged sword.

Imagine a loose canon like Wike (when he was still governor) being 100% in charge of the police in Rivers state? Imagine the kind of brute emperor he would have been.

I'm not surprised he clamoured for state policing when he was still Governor, but now speaks against it when no longer in power.

Has he changed that stance? Is he afraid of Fubara? The state police police we have in mind won't be controlled by state governors. It will be independent an virile.

Blame the Odilis. The local people who knew Nyesom Wike better as an empty person struck off his name from Local Government election. Odilis replaced Wike for the election. Because PDP was in control of Rivers State, Wike became local government chairman. From there, he got money to continue with his bullshitting.
