'They had it coming,’ Rapper Skales reacts to EFCC officer’s death by MasterJayJay(op): 5:49pm On Jan 20, 2025
Nigerian rapper and singer, Raoul Njeng-Njeng, popularly known as Skales, has taken to social media to express outrage, recounting a personal encounter with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission following the death of one of its officers during a raid.

The EFCC confirmed that Assistant Superintendent Aminu Salisu was fatally shot during an operation in Awka, Anambra State, on January 17, 2025.

According to EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, on Sunday, Salisu was part of a team conducting a raid on a property housing 37 suspected internet fraudsters.

Reacting to the news in a series of posts via X on Monday, Skales described his own past experience with the anti-graft agency, sharing details of a traumatic encounter involving a raid at his home.

“Well when they came to my house, they didn’t ask; they didn’t knock; they just broke the door and I’m not a fraudster. Plus, my whole family was there with me, including my newborn… imagine being woken up with four AK-47s and three sledgehammers like a gaddamn horror movie, and all this because they saw luxurious cars in front of my house,” he wrote.

Skales, whose stage name is an acronym for Seek Knowledge Acquire Large Entrepreneurial Skills, expressed his frustration at the EFCC’s methods.

“Imagine the trauma … I still wake up every 4-6 am to look outside my window if someone is trying to break in … they also act like criminals and scare the living shit out of the innocent.. if you’ve never experienced them, you will never understand the scar and trauma they live on you and I’ve never committed such crime in my life… so they had it coming I don’t care,” he said.

The musician’s remarks came after Oyewale disclosed that Salisu was killed by a suspected internet fraudster, identified as Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu.

The EFCC stated that Ikechukwu, alerted by CCTV surveillance, refused to open his door to the investigators and instead opened fire, killing Salisu and injuring another officer.

Oyewale described the attack as “cold-blooded,” adding, “The EFCC expresses grief on the loss of one of its officers… It is heinous to reduce the death of a gallant officer who was carrying out patriotic and official duties to social media razzmatazz.”

Skales, however, criticised the EFCC’s operations, alleging abuse of power and extortion.

“That organisation need to be scraped out or reformed but we all know there’s no such thing as reform in this country…I use to rate them but till I found out they use that organisation to abuse power and extort young people of money,” he added.

Despite expressing sympathy for the loss of life, Skales said he remained unapologetic about his sentiments.

“It’s quite unfortunate that someone lost his life, but they had it coming. Imagine the trauma I and my family still face till now,” he said.

Meanwhile, the EFCC called for respect and understanding during this period, stating that the operation was in accordance with its protocols and urging the public to avoid spreading false narratives about the incident.

My comment back then. Dem no dey hear word

I predicted in 2023 that one of them will be killed in this stupid night raid.

If you behave like a criminal by breaking into people's homes at night, whatever you see, take am.

EFCC later banned night raids on November 2023.

So why did they disobey the ban?

EFCC was created by Obasanjo to go after corrupt politicians who were accused of money laundering. Their jobs was strictly to monitor politicians, investigate properties they bought with funds suspected to be from the country's purse.

But today, they've left the purpose they were created for to start dragging roles with the police. Infact their mode of operations is becoming like that of the banned Sars.

Imagine invading a hotel, slapping the manager, breaking into people's homes and beating them up, chasing yahoo boys up and down because you feel they're guiltily of fraud.

The Nigerian police has a cyber crime unit. All fraud related cases should be handled by that unit. EFCC should go back to to investigating corrupt politicians. That's the sole reason they were created.

So why did they disobey the ban?
Because Nigeria is a lawless nation.
Some of the raids were not directed from their offices but by overzealous quick cash officers who prey on yahoo boys or those that look suspicious to them.
The day I heard how they burgled a neighbor, I thought it was thieves. That's how terrible their night raids can be.

The mode of efcc operations need to be reformed
To them, any young guys riding luxurious car is tagged as fraudster
What's now the difference between efcc and the then sars?

A celeb is human too, if they broke into your house like criminals you won't be saying this. Still saying this, if I have a gun and someone jumps into my compound in the midnight even if I see them in government uniform I will spray them coz I don't joke with my life or that of my family.

Agencies don't respect laws and regulations; even their own. You see presidency is refusing to release Nnamdi Kanu and if anyone acts on that now, una go begin preach justice.

I read they were 3 armed robbers and the home owner shot just two, killed one and wounded the other. Man would have shot all three dead. Well, one out of three is still good.

I hold a license and a firearm but I'm not sure I'd be able to fire at anyone. Maybe in the air to deter them but not at a human.

I feel no pity for the dead Official though cos they acted with impunity breaking down doors. The innocent doctor fully aware of the ban on night raids since 2023 had every right to believe that they were impostors and was only defending himself!

Would I do same... No! Cos Nigeria is a jungle and the law won't protect me. I wish him the best

This matter get as be seriously, law enforcement officers need to be more circumspect in their actions but that being said, a life was lost and so Skales shouldn't have said that.

May God guide us to the right path.

Jesus Christ means well for you, always know that, all you have to do is repent and commit to him.

Release Kanu on what grounds. I can only imagine a Biafra in which a 0su acts EXACTLY as Nnamdi Kanu......I can assure you that the Biafran nation would have put a bullet in his skull long time ago.

Serious?
Why do efcc have to break the law that says don't break into people's house in the dead of the night.
Are they armed robbers?
