Vice-President JD Vance cast the tie-breaking vote in Hegseth's favour, after three Republican senators, including former Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell, voted against him.

Get a credit card, start out with something with 0 or a moderate fee seeing you don't travel often. And when you start traveling more, you can upgrade to something that has more perks on it.
Run all your purchases through it and pay it off at the end of the month. (I'm relatively cashless in the US, and credit cards have better protections as well)
Depending on what card you get you can earn points you can use to buy airfare or upgrade flights. (better redemption than redeeming it for cash).

Still have hundreds of thousands of points (about 350k) left over in my Hilton account for future trips. And I alternate the same way with my Marriot and Hyatt accounts. What sense does it make pay that $5k for a resort stay when I can get it for 0.00 as long as I’m using my outstanding credit?

The credit system is there to serve the customer. It’s one of the benefits of living in advanced society. No need to pay cash and not get benefits for my cash. I understand that people get excited and overspend more than they earn and get into trouble so that’s why some people avoid credit.

1) Live within your income means
2) Earn cash, Pay with credit and pay off the credit before it’s due.
3)Never accumulate debt.
4)Accumulate and save up your points for future rewards, upgrades, free hotel stays, access to luxury lounges on your trips etc. Rinse and repeat.

I learned about points when I was 27 and wish I had known earlier. It's was a big life/money hack.
Flights were one of the biggest hacks. I have enough rewards/points spread out over various airlines that I can book flights early, whenever I get invited to an event. I can then make up my mind and cancel even the day of the flight without a penalty.

If you can follow the rules you posted, it's worth more than worth it.

Points are a marginal benefit. You can’t start a business with bank loan without a good credit history. Even if you have the cash, why wouldn’t you use the banks’ money that’s already insured?

Little things like these show you truly don’t know what you don’t know. Even as “small” a benefit as they are, why would I pay thousands every time I go on a trip if my points can cover it at no cost to me? About 6 countries in the last few months and I only paid for hotels like 3 times. That’s a few extra thousands in my pocket instead of paying it when I didn’t need to. I don’t know what you think is funny but it truly shows you’re out of your depth here.

Anyway I’m not interested in arguing about level of wealth. I’m middle class not wealthy. I’m not Elon or 1/100th of his level of wealth. So I find this to be good financial advice. It’s also for the benefit of anyone who doesn’t know. They can pick up a tip on how not to spend money they don’t have to spend. That’s all it is .

It’s for the coming summer. I haven’t gone yet. I’m sure it’ll be worth it. A colleague who has similar travel tastes as I do recommended it.
