What would you have done If you were in this nairalander's shoe ?

She saw a purse that has 40 thousands naira in it and returned it to the owner while she herself was in need .
At the end; people criticised her for doing so .

Would you have done the same or otherwise ?

Doesn't change the fact that virtue goes for free

Good ones aren't paid to be good , they are wired thy way

This is one of the reasons religious people are such INSUFFERABLE hypocrites!

They have been CONDITIONED to be good and to do good in EXCHANGE for a reward—heaven.

The concept of doing good just because it's the right thing to do is ALIEN to them.

That's why one of the first questions a religious person would ask an atheist is "if you don't believe in God, why don't you just go around raping and killing people and doing all manner of bad things?"

It's because a LOT of religious people have a soul the colour of midnight.

The darkness in them is BARELY reined in by the tenets of their religion so it BOGGLES their minds that irreligious people are NOT constantly on raping and killing sprees.

A good deed from a HEATHEN is more VALUABLE than a good deed from a DEVOUT christian/muslim/whatever.

If you ONLY do the right thing because you expect a REWARD, then you are NOT a good person.

If you found a lost item and the owner is easily IDENTIFIABLE, it's NOT a display of exceptional virtue to return it to said owner.

Even WITHOUT any reward.

Knowing the owner of a lost item and STILL keeping it just makes you a THIEF.

Your current PREDICAMENT is not an excuse for keeping another person's property.

Plus, #40k is NOT really a lot of money today. You can go shopping with it and carry EVERYTHING you bought with #40k in just ONE sack bag.

So even if you kept the money because of "your circumstances", chances are high you'd be back in that same position in less than 2 weeks.

But now you'd have to deal with the fact that you are a CROOK and all your dignity and integrity is for sale for the LOW price of #40k.

would you keep quite, some people are naturally nice, why involving religion in this.

She said the reason she returned the purse had to do with, not her ability to empathize with the one who lost the purse but rather, her Christian. She took to not only announcing her deed but also making an effort to connect it to her religion, not niceness. undecided

Then what would have become of the owner if she didn't noticed you were the one who saw the purse ?
Would you still hand it over to her if she cried out ?

She mentioned " Christian " because that's the source of her empathy .

As a non Christian you also have what you think inspires you to do what you do
so she said nothing wrong .

Uncle Nam, you are talking rubbish because it is the natural law that we do good because we want good to be done to us. So we are all expecting a benefit.

If it were not so, then you would never be complaining how wicked and ungrateful beechies are, after all the good you have done for them and they still went aw0ring.

What the guy did is perfectly in order, but what I find confusing is the response of the first person in your screen shot.
This kind of story always helps to restore my hope in human. Keep em coming...
