To add to this, let's get some sensible bride price in ala Igbo.

This woman had a family she could have, admittedly shamefully, returned to with the kids. However I believe because they taxed the man to smithereens when he came to ask for her hand, she cannot go back as the family don't have anything to return to the husband.

Now the woman and kids are stuck in a never ending cycle of violence. A shame really.
