I applied for my student permit 11/12/2024 with accompanying mum 11/12/2024. Biometric was completed 13/12/20024. Myself (Algonquin Architecture Diploma), my mum, my close friend ( Algonquin Diploma Computer programming) we went high school togther and graduated June 2024 and one of my distance relative( she applied for PG Algonquin Paralegal). January 6th, My application and my mum application was withdrawn. While my firend and disctance related where approved same date. Reason for withdrawal was invalid PAL. I had mistakely uploaded my friends PAL. This i noticed after I got the withdrawal. Mum refusal letter This letter refers to your application to accompany a family member as a temporary resident. As your family member’s study permit application has been closed, your application has also been closed and is not accepted for processing. Your processing fees will be refunded. Please note that refunds may take between 6 to 8 weeks to arrive. Should you choose to re-apply, please submit a new application including all required documents and pay all applicable fees. Sincerely, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada | Immigration, Réfugiés et Citoyenneté Canada Government of Canada | Gouvernement du Canada www.cic.gc.ca Additional Resources For additional information and legal references, please visit: • Study in Canada as an international student - Canada.ca • Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (justice.gc.ca) • Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (justice.gc.ca) My refusal Letter This letter refers to your application to study in Canada as a temporary resident. On January 22, 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) established an intake cap on most study permit applications. As a result, new study permit applications submitted to IRCC must include a provincial or territorial attestation letter (PAL/TAL) from the intended province or territory of study (or for applicants destined to Quebec, an attestation of issuance of a Quebec Acceptance Certificate that confirms the student has a place in Quebec’s share of distributed study permit applications), unless the criteria for an exception is met. Your application did not include a valid PAL/TAL from the province or territory where you plan to study and, based on the information provided in your application, you do not meet the criteria for an exception. Therefore, in accordance with the Ministerial Instructions with respect to the processing of certain applications for a study permit, your application cannot be accepted for processing. Your processing fees will be refunded. Refunds may take between 6 to 8 weeks to be issued. Should you choose to re-apply, please submit a new application including all required documents and pay all applicable fees. Please ensure you provide a valid PAL/TAL or provide evidence that you meet an exception as part of your submission. Sincerely, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada | Immigration, Réfugiés et Citoyenneté Canada Government of Canada | Gouvernem When I ask MP for a follow up this is what I got from her. Fri, Jan 10, 10:51 AM to me Hi xxxxx, I spoke with IRCC this morning regarding xxxxx She noted that the officer stated that the letter provided was not valid, and that the applicant was not actually eligible to apply. Unfortunately, our time on the call ran out, so I have put in a request for more clarity on this one. Once I have more information, I will get back to you. Thank you, Next follow up Jan 22, 2025, 1:37 PM (7 days ago) to me Hi xxxx, I spoke with IRCC again re: xxxx’ application, and they noted that the letter they received did no have his name on it. It was someone else’s name. They are assuming the wrong letter was uploaded with the application. This is what made the letter invalid. This can not be a re-consideration, and needs to be a new application with the correct letter. Unless you have proof that the letter which was uploaded with the original application, a new application will need to be submitted. Thank you, >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> However I reapplied for myself and mum 21/01/2025 And today noticed a Ghost update. when I checked seems they updated my medical Application status and messages Check the status, review the details and read messages for your application. Application status We are processing your application. We will send you a message when there is an update or if we need more information from you. Latest update: Review of medical results - January 29, 2025:You passed the medical exam. All finger crossed. I actually completed upfront medical last year. before I applied |

Yes, you can. You will just need to put more effort in justifying your purpose of visit, e.g. why the new study path and what you plan to do with the study. Itiswell2334: |

You have to look at the reviewed immigration requirements for foreign students and children dependent. A lot has changed in Canadian immigration polices recently. Don't be too quick to refer to others that may have qualifued based on pre January 21st immigration policy. technix: |

This you can either do via requesting GCMS notes which takes about 30days response time, could be less or more. But in my case, my uncle who lives in Ottawa went through contacting his Member of parliarment (MP). Seems MP has direct phone communication with IRCC to get similar result we get from GCMS notes. Lol. You should have asked if I have done that or at least, refer to a particular policy that has affected what I said. And saying "don't be too quick" is rather condescending. The recent changes do not apply to children of international students. Jeboy: |

technix:The children may receive a hit on pgwp application as dependents. The rules is somehow for foreign workers. Applying for pgwp without teer 0, 1, 2 and 3 jobs in labour shortage occupation, the spouse will not be eligible for OWP. |

It's not condescending unless you think you are Mr know all. What is there in saying you should have a review. Na pride dey do you jare. technix: |

Baba leave am, he hasn't done detailed job on the recent change. Even peeps that use immigration consultants to process their application do get refused talk less of others. Canada has changed a lot. To get sowp with pgwp or study/visit pernit for dependent kinds will be difficult now with the new policy. Predator188: |

The questioner asked about their kids while studying. Doesn't have anything to do with spouse. Predator188: |

Lol. Your hands are itchy. From question about kids to policy change to OWP. I haven't done a detailed job? Interesting assumption. Guy, I am in Canada and I follow immigration updates. It's very simple, post a link to a recent policy that affects the kids of international students while studying. If you can't, just move on abeg. Jeboy: |
| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by Predator188: 9:15pm On Jan 31, 2025 |
technix:This is where you missed it....... They blocked 🚫 kids as dependents on tempoary foreign workers application kids are no longer eligible and pgwp is a temporary foreign worker program and this is the confusion and how it may effect international students..applying for new work permit. |
| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by technix: 9:43pm On Jan 31, 2025 |
Kids are no longer eligible for what? Open work permit, study permit or visitor visa? The ineligibility only applies to OWP. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/news/notices/changes-open-work-permits-family-members-temporary-residents.html Predator188: |

No worries at all. The way they worded the new rules can be confusing. Predator188: |

| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by zubizareta(m): 12:46am On Feb 01, 2025 |
Deeegbee:Yes it affects them. The law is already was effective jan 21 for everyone. Your spouse will have to get a job offer in teer 0,1 and some selected jobs in teer 1 and 2 for you to be eligible for OWP when he/she switches to pgwp. Generally, most of the kids aren't affected. However, dependent kids that were eligible for OWP are no longer eligible. Example dependent kids not more than 21 that were through with secondary schools and were in the past eligible for OWP are no longer eligible. |
