In an era where God is dismantling facades, Bishop Mariann Budde’s actions have thrust her into the spotlight—and not for reasons aligning with her public persona. As reported by The Gateway Pundit, Budde, who famously criticized President Donald Trump during an inaugural prayer service, has been exposed for pocketing a staggering $53 million in taxpayer funds through her organization, Episcopal Migration Ministries.

Budde’s words during the National Prayer Service painted her as a champion for the vulnerable. She implored President Trump to show compassion towards groups like illegal immigrants and the LGBTQ+ community. However, her sanctimonious appeals now ring hollow in light of revelations about the financial windfall her organization has reaped from federal programs. The very compassion she championed appears entangled with a profit motive, as EMM cashed in $53 million in 2023 alone to resettle just 3,600 individuals.

The hypocrisy is glaring. While Bishop Budde’s moral posturing calls for social justice, her organization’s deep entanglement with federal funds raises uncomfortable questions about the true motivations behind these advocacy efforts. As the New York Post detailed, in 2024, EMM “sponsored” 6,400 individuals from 48 countries, including Afghans under special humanitarian programs and refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo. These newcomers are immediately eligible for welfare benefits comparable to those available to U.S. citizens, a policy that further fuels public debate about resource allocation and national priorities.

Yet, it doesn’t end there. The financial mechanisms underpinning EMM’s operations reveal a sophisticated network designed to maximize profit. The Episcopal Church, legally separate from EMM, actively lobbies in D.C. for programs that directly benefit EMM’s resettlement efforts. Through programs like “Preferred Communities,” initiated during the Obama administration, EMM receives premium payments for resettling refugees facing social or psychological challenges, including LGBTQ+ individuals and survivors of torture.

Moreover, the so-called “Matching Grant” program exemplifies the exploitation of public-private partnerships. For every dollar EMM receives from the Department of Health and Human Services, they only need to contribute 10 cents, supplemented by in-kind donations like used cars and volunteer hours. Even more troubling is the Episcopal Church’s commission on travel loans made to refugees. The taxpayer funds the International Organization for Migration, which provides interest-free airfare loans to refugees. If these loans are repaid, the church pockets 25% of the repayment—a scheme that profits from the very people it purports to help.

In exposing Bishop Budde’s financial dealings, a broader pattern emerges—one where the lines between advocacy and avarice blur. The Bible is clear about the fate of hypocrites. In Matthew 23:27, Jesus condemns the religious leaders of His day, saying, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and of all uncleanness.” This stark warning reflects the peril of outward righteousness masking inner corruption. Luke 12:2-3 further declares, “For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. Therefore what you have said in the darkness will be heard in the light. And what you have whispered in the ear in private rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops.”

As the public demands greater accountability from both secular and religious institutions, figures like Budde serve as modern examples of this timeless truth: hypocrisy will be exposed, and those who exploit their positions of moral authority for personal gain will face inevitable judgment, no matter the political party. The era of unchecked sanctimony is waning, and with each revelation, the call for genuine transparency grows louder.

27 Religious Groups Sue Trump Administration To Shield Houses Of Worship From Immigration Arrests

No fewer than two dozen Christian and Jewish organisations, representing millions of Americans, have filed a federal lawsuit against the Trump administration.

The suit is challenging a new policy that grants immigration agents broader authority to conduct arrests at houses of worship, according to Reuters.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Washington, argues that the policy instills fear among congregants, leading to decreased attendance at worship services and essential community programs.

The plaintiffs claim this infringes on their religious freedom, specifically their ability to minister to migrants, including undocumented individuals.

“We have immigrants, refugees, people who are documented and undocumented,” said Most Rev. Sean Rowe, presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church.

“We cannot worship freely if some of us are living in fear,” he told The Associated Press. “By joining this lawsuit, we’re seeking the ability to gather and fully practice our faith, to follow Jesus’ command to love our neighbors as ourselves.”

The plaintiffs in the lawsuit include major faith organizations such as: The Episcopal Church (1.5 million members); Union for Reform Judaism (over 1 million members); Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1.1 million members); African Methodist Episcopal Church (1.5 million members); Christian Church (Disciples of Christ); Church of the Brethren

Others are: Convención Bautista Hispana de Texas (1,100 Hispanic Baptist churches); Friends General Conference (Quakers); Mennonite Church USA (50,000 members); Unitarian Universalist Association; United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism and United Methodist Church and United Church of Christ

The lawsuit builds on a similar legal challenge filed on January 27 by five Quaker congregations, which was later joined by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and a Sikh temple. That case is currently pending in U.S. District Court in Maryland.

The Trump administration has not issued an immediate response to the new lawsuit. However, a Department of Justice (DOJ) memorandum opposing the earlier Quaker lawsuit suggests a likely legal defense.

The DOJ argues that the lawsuit is based on “hypothetical future harm”, which does not justify blocking the policy. The memo also notes that immigration enforcement at houses of worship has been allowed for decades, and the new rule only removes the requirement for pre-approval from supervisors.

Kelsi Corkran, lead counsel for the lawsuit and a lawyer at Georgetown University Law Center, warned that the policy gives immigration agents unrestricted authority.

“Now it’s go anywhere, any time,” she told AP. “They have broad authority to swoop in — they’ve made it very clear they’ll get every undocumented person.”

She cited a case where a Honduran man was arrested outside his family’s church in Atlanta while a service was ongoing.

Plaintiffs argue that the policy endangers community outreach efforts, including food banks, meal programs, and homeless shelters.

The Latino Christian National Network, another plaintiff, described a rise in fear among immigrant communities.
