We tried that paper straw down here too.
I bought loads, the thing didn't work.
Kids don't even touch it. I tried using and ended up binning them. My money gone just like that.
Gradually, the plastics started creeping back. I even vex buy solid aluminium type we can wash and use again at home. We were told no more plastic. Didn't know America experienced the same thing.


Also paper shopping bags. Aldi and Tesco started with paper bags. I haven't seen those bags in ages.

Ever been in a position where you are controlling a financial year budget?
I got surprised that some govts allocate money in a budget and any unspent monies are carried forward to the next financial year. In others every unspent money goes back to the govt Treasury to be disbursed afresh in the next budget You can only imagine how govt finance officers scramble to use every last budgeted money in the hours to the end of financial year. They literally buy anything at any cost, auditors don't have time to go through millions of receipts for that year
I guess the Pentagon falls into the same trap. They have unspent $$$ for that year DOGE to the rescue of taxpayer funds.
