Background: I was employed 2-month ago and the job was a full time job. It's more of inventory in a luxury firm. It's a one- man business operated by husband and wife.

I was given a responsibility of handling the inventory aspect which I will submit on an Excel format(which must include all pictures of the stock keeping unit of above 1000) I took my time to study the process and counted every stock and submitted. The company/shop did not have any primary data before now.

Towards mid January, while still on the excel, the wife brought one software which she said she want to use for sale and that I should continue uploading the items. I suspended the Excel and continued with the software. Her culture before now which I got from old staff was to use inventory officer to count her stock and sack them at the end of 3--month and she always get away with that since no appointments letter until end of 3month.

The wife now insist on not paying me January salary with flimsy excuses of not getting my report on time . Is that a valid reason? What should be the next line of action for me now that I don't have a letter of appointment?

Most times is better to get an employment letter. Stating salaries, rules and other stuffs before starting a job.

People will call to disturb them on your behalf.

Also if is an open shop arrange with your guy who will assume to be a customer that want to buy in large quantity, then when he get to the shop spoil the company image which will stop him from buying right in front of them

Bruv u were WRONG from ON SET, on every OFFFER there should be an appointment letter which will INCLUDE it PROBATION and a CONTRACT must be signed to Buttress that.
1st step make a report TO NEARBY police Station to the WAREHOUSE or shop
2nd step, get a lawyer (if the salary is about 100 t0 150 k( letter from lawyer will take 25k)
after the letter which must iclude 7days ultimatum to reply or get paid..
3rd step proceed to AREA COMMAND and write NGO, human RIGHTS

No employment letter was given at the time of being employed, so I don't think there is much a lawyer can do other than to placate them to pay you. Have you seen the husband to talk to about the situation?

they will lock you up and make sure you kpai on awaiting trial. Call them out online instead

Don't do it. If it's in Lagos, just petition the office of public defenders and follow up.
