President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to approve the nomination of 11 individuals, including family members of prominent politicians, as directors in the newly established North-West Development Commission (NWDC).

The nominations were confirmed in a letter jointly signed by Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Senator (Dr.) Barau I. Jibrin, Deputy President of the Senate. The letter was addressed to President Tinubu, who is expected to finalize the appointments.

Among the nominees are Asiya Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the daughter of APC National Chairman and former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, proposed as Director of Community and Rural Development.

The son of Senator Aliyu Wamakko, former Governor of Sokoto State, has been nominated as Director of Planning, Research, Statistics, and Management Information Systems.

The NWDC is expected to drive infrastructural growth, economic development, and improved governance in the North-West region.

However, the inclusion of politically connected individuals has raised concerns about political favoritism and the importance of merit-based appointments.

The nominations aim to strengthen the region's governance and development but are also likely to spark debates over the fairness and transparency of the process.

Garba Aminu – Director, Youth & Women Affairs Development.

The President is not really gauging the pulse of the North and, indeed, of the nation. Does he think catering only to the interests of the elites to the detriment of the masses will guarantee him votes? This may work in Lagos, but it's not the same nationwide. There really is nothing inspiring about this government.
