LESSONS FROM AFCON 2023!

✍️ Ivory Coast lost two out of three group matches but still made it to the final. They had a second chance and made the most of it. Life will sometimes give you a second chance—don’t waste it. Never give up on yourself!

✍️ Ivory Coast suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat against Equatorial Guinea, yet they reached the final while Equatorial Guinea got eliminated. Victory today doesn’t make you the best, and defeat today doesn’t mean the end. Never write anyone off, and never look down on someone just because you beat them once!

✍️ Ivory Coast needed Morocco to defeat Zambia to qualify. Morocco helped them but was later eliminated. Some people who cheer for you today may not be your true friends—they might just be using your success for their gain. Be wise; don’t let anyone exploit you for benefits that don’t serve you.

✍️ The South African goalkeeper saved four penalties against Cape Verde and became overconfident. They hoped for a penalty shootout against Nigeria, expecting the same result. Yet, against Nigeria, he couldn’t stop a single penalty, while the Nigerian goalkeeper saved two and won Man of the Match. Confidence is good, but overconfidence can be your downfall. Stay humble and prepared.

✍️ Nigeria scored a second goal that was disallowed due to an earlier foul, leading to a penalty for South Africa. Just when you think all hope is lost, life can offer you a surprising turnaround. Your setback may be setting you up for a comeback.

✍️ Senegal remained unbeaten in the group stage but got eliminated by Ivory Coast, a team that lost two matches. Success isn’t always about how well you start but how well you finish.

✍️ Defenders focused on stopping Victor Osimhen, disallowing four of his goals, but they overlooked Ademola Lookman. Sometimes, your real challenge isn’t the obvious one. Be strategic—your greatest opportunity may come from an unexpected source.

✍️ Kelechi Iheanacho didn’t play in the first five matches but came in late in the sixth game and became the hero. Sometimes, all you need is one moment, one opportunity. If you get just one chance to make an impact, make it count!

📌 “I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.”
Ecclesiastes 9:11

Injuries. With Grealish getting injured, followed by Akanji and then Ake, our game got disrupted. With John Stones dominating midfield and playing the best game of his life, we had to take him off that position.

That weakened our play and system. It all fell apart when we had to change game plan to accommodate the changes.

I am still critical of Pep for not bringing in Kushanov and leaving John Stones as the defensive pivot.

Either way, it was injuries that scattered it.

It is different in Real Madrid's case, the injuries happened before the game, so they could prepare for it. In our case, in response to the question, why we fell off in the second half, the injuries happened during the game. 3 injuries. It is not the same thing.

Finito.

I stated facts. You really are not making a contribution now. 3 players injured during the game and changed our game plan. Many teams will suffer from that.

You are being emotive and prejudiced.

Quality is the only basis for selection.

It's a common phenomenon that not all the players that helped you to qualify get into the final squad.

As BETTER and more quality options in players are found and therefore selected.
I don't agree with your statement, if Nigeria qualifies for the world cup (although the chances of doing so are slim) I don't want any foreign mercenary added into the squad no matter how better they might be, especially that Adarabioyo. We don't need a Kevin Prince Boateng in Super Eagles.

That he decided to play because Man City had injury issues and decided to play negative football the last time they met.

That is why I asked if you watched the game. You didn't and can't understand the brilliance of our first half play. How we controlled and dominated Real Madrid in the middle. If you did, you won't make that statement.
