It's quite unfortunate that people that make defamatory comments like these exist here and he even laughed about it.

Not a very great tribute but it does have some elements of truth. I am a mechanic and I'm extremely proud of my profession because I believe I have all the knowledge and experience to handle any automobile issue hence my background as a qualified and certified Automobile Engineer with experience that spans three continents and over 37 years.

Thus said, yes we do have many unscrupulous elements parading themselves as Auto Technicians. Many of them dont have proper workshops or convenient work premises. They dont have adequate tools or equipments for the jobs they do. Very rudimentary set ups and they without hesitation will recklessly rip apart any unsuspecting victim and fleece them as an appended part of their trade.
However, many of such victims usually seek cheap labour and minimal costs to parts (usually fake or substandard) to effect repairs on their cars believing all should be well. Familiarity and fairness on the first visit is the lure and over time becomes breach in trust, negligence and ignorance not forgetting incompetence. But thats what you get when you want cheap, unprofessional and unskilled labor. Most of these mechanics are illiterate to the discipline and ethics required for these tasks which are mostly complicated and requires a good level of knowledge of the operational principles of the Internal Combustion engine and the all its associated components before establishing a service provision platform. So you'll find out that most car owners are more educated via physical
shadowed interactions and information on the Internet than the individual handling a repair job on their behalf.

The frustration is that most car owners don't want to get their hands dirty and most likely don't have the mechanical temerity to process the job hands-on or may possibly be a total layperson. That may also be ego attributed but thats the price you pay.

Back to terra firma, I have always maintained integrity and honesty as watchwords in my own professional conducts and have exhibited and conducted various challenging jobs in car repairs in 37 years of my career both home here in Nigeria and abroad in the Europe and the Middle East and I do know that certain jobs requires well grounded knowledge of car mechanics and particularly specific to the make and model of any car before ANY kind of repairs is attempted.

I as a professional have had my fingers burnt and disappointed by many third party associations and I have learned the hard way especially here in the climes of Nigeria. What I know now and understand is quite unbelievable and the dark side for those who don't know is treacherous and uncharted but I do make efforts in educating and keeping my clients informed on every single process of the repairs from diagnostics to completion. Still best to approach with caution by verifying content and capacity before engagement.

Now for the poster of this post, may I inform you that Gazzuzz is not a thief. Kingreign is not a thief. Sienna is not a thief. We are all professionals in this industry and I believe we represent and eschew great value on this forum so I see this as an insult to our personalities and more importantly our integrity when we get labeled and listed among the likes of those "quacks" as you rightly called them whom you may have fallen victim to.

I am seriously demanding an apology from you the poster @2cribz for the derogatory remarks and demeaning statements in this post on behalf of all Nairalanders and moderators especially here on the Car Talk forum.

Camry 2012

Suddenly goes off...more likely to happen while idling with AC on but happens in motion too.... Changed the airflow meter and it worked fine for a week. Now going off again

Ran through upto 5 airflow meters before finally getting the one that did not go off....and it only lasted one week

I don't know if there is another issue that is the real problem

Obd scanned....it no longer throws the code for air flow meter. Current code is cooling system malfunction

Any professional diagnostics in Ikeja and Ogba?

Check wire socket going to transmission for breakage of pin or rust. Clean properly, fix back securely, clear error codes, change transmission fluid and filter, if it still occur, replace valve body or complete transmission.

The maintenance minder checks a lot of things like
1. Distance covered
2. Run time or idle time
3. Rpms and speeds

It uses all this information to calculate when you should change oil.

You may consider changing now or you may stretch it to the 5k miles regular interval

Gear heads in the house, please I need a your intellectual input.

I'm working on a 2010 rav4 U140e transmission. Gear wasn't shifting from 1 throughout the drive time, owner said everything was fine until she discovered transfluid leaks and one gear master took the car for oil pump and converter replacement. I replaced the converter installed by gear master cos the seal inside was broken, disassembled the valve body, replaced 2 dead solenoids and stiffened the return springs of some shift valves in the valve body a little bit cos I noticed the valves were not returning to their rest position when I plunged them with a tiny screwdriver.
I replaced O rings on the accumulator pistons and cleaned the entire valve body thoroughly

Now gear shifts fine from 1 to 2 but skips gear 3 and then to 4 making the engine rpm to spike high on 3.

Can a low transmission fluid level cause the transmission to skip the third gear? Any suggestion please
Re: Tell Us Your Car Faults. Let's Assess And Fix Them by 2cribz: 10:52am On Feb 09, 2025
Yes a low trasnmission fluid would cause the torque to read abnormally as well as high rpm on low gear, esp gear 2. Check your dipstick, while the car is on drive, with handbrake on,clean it, and reinsert the gear dip stick, while car is on and on Drive. From there, check for any leakage. If u see any likeage, buy a liquid called thread locker, its like a lil size of super glue, use it to retread all the bolts here and there. If after that, alaye just replace the gear. Tho factory gear is the best,I'm sure the gear will be very sharp, like when u load it from park to drive,it will jerk forward before it responds. Naija mechanics are all killers, rewires are ticking time bomb, while panels are destined for hell

Mine isn't exactly a problem. My engine says it requires 5W-20 engine oil but all I could find at the market is 50W-20. Since 5W-20 is so scarce here, I'm beginning to suspect the mechanic used 50W20 the previous time I changed the engine oil. What should I do? Should I go ahead with the 50W20?

Hello bosses. Good day.

Please I use a Nissan Altima 2008 2.5s.

I recently just changed the car's engine cos the previous one got knocked. Since I changed th engine, I've not enjoyed the car at all. The first issue was the car not revving at all which was partially fixed by the mechanic by replacing the injector mouth( throttle body). After replacement, same issue occured until a rewire checked it out and the car started revving. Also to mention, the car on idle is high around 1300-1500 rpm. It also doesn't start once in the morning until after like 3 to 4 times.

Now the main issue I'm facing is this. Once I engage the gear, the car looses power and accelerates very sluggish and once I put the car back to Neutral or Park, it doesn't rev well and the raising is sluggish. But once I switch off the car and ON again, the car revs well, once i engage gear, it looses power again even when returned to neutral or Park. Please Help
