A girl named Chidera, 12, has been rescued after she suffered multiple extreme bruises and burns on her body.


According to reports, she suffered severe abuse at the hands of her stepmother whom she lived with at Faith Odunaike Street, Ipaja, Lagos State.


Neighbours who witnessed Chidera's plight revealed that her mother is de@d, leaving her at the mercy of her stepmother.


Recently, the stepmother allegedly locked her at home alone and travelled.


Neighbours who feared for her safety had to use a ladder to climb into the house and rescue Chidera, who looked emaciated and had multiple bruises on her body.


The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency stepped in after the girl's story was made public with the hashtag #RescueChidera.


With the help of the Ipaja Police Station, Chidera has been removed from the home where she's suffered abuse.


Her stepmother has now been arrested.
