The Trump administration is seeking layoffs that could cut up to 2,000 Energy Department employees, two sources familiar with the decision told Reuters. The department employs approximately 14,000 federal workers and oversees 95,000 contractors across various energy and security sectors.

One source revealed that approximately 325 employees have been dismissed from the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), which oversees the U.S. nuclear weapons fleet and works to secure radiological materials worldwide.

However, another source said those layoffs have been "partly rescinded"—mainly for essential nuclear security workers. It remains unclear how many of the 325 firings were rescinded.

A letter sent to some employees and seen by Reuters said: "DOE finds that your further employment would not be in the public interest. For this reason, you are being removed from your position with DOE and the federal civil service effective today."

I remember a while ago there was an article about the government spending millions on study of shrimp in the ocean or something(can't quite remember). The right wing media was lambasting it. So, I looked up the study of the shrimp and was surprised that it had very long term practical applications esp. for the military of how things move in fluid motion in deep water.

Just saying, somethings look and sound crazy, but always aren't.

In this case, these cups are a "bespoke self warming mug that is used for heating liquids and beverages on very long service missions on a particular military airplane." (based on reddit). It seems these mugs have to plug into these planes for power and not interfere with the highly specialized electronics in these airplanes.

So, it's not just a coffee mug you can get at a grocery store. It has to be specially designed for each plane and tested to make sure it doesn't interfere with it. It may still be somewhat overpriced though, but there will be a lot of outrage before people look into why it may cost so much.

Much like scientists often experiment on mice because they’re mammals. We can tell how things might affect us by how it affects them. Like the current popular weight loss medications (the glp1s) that have been found to reduce obesity at far drastic rates than any medications of their kind. Also now being studied to cure other problems like alcoholism and chronic kidney diseases.

They have to test first on mice before proceeding to human trials.

If you leave it to the right wing who only know how to propagandize, they’ll say the researchers are spending millions to help mice loose weight.

We often underestimate how people’s biases can erode their reason. I’ve heard it being called the normalcy bias. As a person you don’t want to cause yourself distress by thinking that there could possibly be that many racist or prejudiced people around you. So you dismiss it by saying surely that can’t happen. And then it happens and leaves you confused as to why such a huge number of people still harbor presumably archaic biases even to the point where they’ll vote against themselves to hold up those biases.

I saw the videos of the attacks on black people in the UK. Would I be surprised if some of the same black people who possibly feared for their lives at that time still vote for the party behind the ideology that caused the attacks? No I wouldn’t be.

Sue is home from work. She plans to visit her father this evening at his farm home in the country. She gets in her car for the drive. Her car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal fought for car safety standards.

She arrives at her childhood home. Her generation was the third to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans. The house didn't have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification.

She is happy to see her father, who is now retired. Her father lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Sue wouldn't have to.

He doesn't mention that Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Sue enjoys throughout her day. Sue agrees: "We don't need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I'm self-made and believe everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have."’

UKIP (Nigel Farages previous party) polled 18% in a previous election and came up with one seat.

All that happens is their vote will be like 10-30% across many seats but not enough to take the seat.

What they do is dilute Conservative numbers and allow Labour a victory.

All it takes is to change Kemi to an old boy Conservative and they'll abandon Reform and come back.

Now if Reform get 100 votes, I hope you know that the only party that will partner with them is Conservatives

100 is not enough for you to be given mandate to seek partners to form Government. The party with most seats will be given that mandate which should be around 270 plus seats. Now the only party that will agree to partner Reform is Conservatives. But if Reform has 100 plus seats, guaranteed they took so many of them from Conservatives that Conservatives won't be the ones with 270 plus seats and the mandate to form a Government. That means if would likely be Labour, and every party except Conservatives and Reform will agree to form Govt with Labour. This includes Scottish National Party, Liberal Democrats., Welsh Party, Greens etc.

Mind you I don't mind Reform as they are not a nasty party like American Republicans. They regularly sack party members caught making racist comments unlike Republicans and you could see during the riots that Farage was not down with the racists that made Apartheid Boy Elon Musk call for his ouster.

Look, Conservatives were always going to be changed after 14 years in power and the inflation of 2021 to 2023. We are just happy that Starmer was in power at Labour when it came to their turn and not an extremist like Corbyn.

Starmer hasn't done much wrong except not supporting your Tommy Robinson race riots. He is the first Prime Minister since my favourite Cameron to take the budget deficit seriously and is trying to plug that gap.

In an alternative universe, you could have a Labour leader in power who is in hock to the Unions, anti-Jewish, spending money like a drunkard on Social Welfare etc. Starmer is doing none of that and is governing with fiscal integrity, not borrowing for popular policies and leaving the burden on future Prime Ministers.
