So it can not be enforced based on strict measures?. Na only to close entire market down for people to go hungry in the name of fake products that can be enforced. Misplaced priorities and weakness in governance. Fake sympathy from the federal level |

The fastest way for the prices of food stuff and Raw food items to reduce significantly and fast is for State Government(s) and Local Government (s) to directly cut off middle-men from the food chain. 1,The State and Local Government will provide Land and inputs like machinery, fertilizer etc. 2,The State and LGs then buy directly from the Farmers as such cutting-off middlemen who are mere opportunists and enablers of artificial price hike. The Ekiti State Government has commenced this model with expectation of reducing food prices in the next harvest season. 3, States should collaborate directly on Inter-state basis and sell directly on this basis e.g Kebbi State and Lagos State on Rice production as such reducing price. Middlemen will be the major reason why prices continue to soar. |

Will you also urge landlords to reduce rent? When has any landlord in Nigeria ever reduced rent? You know very well that once the prices of certain items and services go up, they hardly come down. Yet, you were making senseless declarations upon assuming office. You didn't consider the implications, even if your policies, by chance, work out. Which of the landlords in Nigeria would agree to a rent reduction? You mean after collecting a newly increased rent of 1 million in 2024, a Nigerian landlord would notify his tenants to start paying 500k in 2025 just because your useless policies are now "working"? Just like that? Useless people! |

“The federal government is aware of the significant drop in the prices of food items across major markets, particularly for essential commodities such as flour, sugar, rice and pasta. However, it is deeply concerning that many retailers, bakers, and shop owners have refused to reflect this reduction in their selling prices, thereby denying Nigerians the relief they deserve.SMH.. We Nigerians are our own biggest problem! |

Lanruze:^^^ Not all markets are wholesale markets. Middle men do play a vital role. Its very unlikely that government can handle the logistics of markets at the community level. Government will do a poor job. Their track record in this sort of thing is very poor. If government cannot handle the logistics of elections - then you can be sure government cannot handle the logistics of food supply to community markets. Lanruze:^^^ You need to elaborate more. Are you suggesting government goes into direct production on government owned farms?...Or are you suggesting that government gives land/machinery/fertilizer to farmers at subsidized rates? Nigeria's history with government supplied fertilizer has been bad. It just hasn't worked well at all. Lanruze:^^^ Shed more light on the Ekiti model. Are they doing anything differently from other state governments? Lanruze:^^^ Like I said earlier, not all markets are wholesesale markets. It is middlemen who make it possible for food to get to the small, local markets we patronize. You are quite close to the answer. The problem isn't middlemen per se - the problem is collusion and price fixing among sellers - and price fixing/collusion is widespread in Nigerian markets of all kinds (wholesale & retail). There are already laws against this - that's why the FCCPC exists. Enforcement is an entirely different story though. Edit: We have all agreed to ignore the elephant in the room and pretend the hike in the price of fuel, electricity, phone calls etc. doesn't matter. |
