Lookman Responds To Gasperini Criticism After Penalty Miss by kidap(op): 2:16pm On Feb 19, 2025
Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has responded to manager Gian Piero Gasperini's public criticism following a missed penalty, releasing a statement on his social media pages.

Lookman expressed his disappointment at having to address the situation publicly, particularly given the team's shared achievements.

He described being singled out as "hurtful" and "deeply disrespectful," emphasizing his dedication and hard work for the club and its supporters.

In his statement, Lookman acknowledged numerous past challenges at Atalanta, most of which he chose not to discuss to protect team unity. He stated that this makes the current situation even more painful.

Addressing the penalty miss directly, Lookman explained that the designated penalty taker instructed him to take the spot kick, and he accepted the responsibility to support the team in that moment.

Lookman concluded his statement by emphasizing his resilience, saying, "Life's about challenges and turning pain into power which I'll continue to do."

The social media post offers Lookman's perspective on the events surrounding the missed penalty and highlights a clear disagreement with Gasperini's public assessment of the situation.

The post has quickly garnered attention from fans and media alike, further escalating the discussion surrounding the incident.

To our own Ademola Lookman, we stand by you fully at this difficult time. No player should be disrespected the way and manner your coach did yesterday. You’re Africa’s best and shouldn’t be treated like trash. Whatever your decisions are, the rest of the world are supporting you.

Italian league and the envy of the success of African players especially Nigerian players are like conjoin twins. Once you outshine their white players, they would do anything they can to pull you down out of envy.

You don’t have to reply, at least not publicly. You could have done in private.

Two wrongs don’t make a right.

Learn from older generation players like Samuel Eto’o and use your skills and talent to respond. Even to your manager.

When you were @ your peak they don't remember that. The error that is common in football, is what they are insulting you for. Even Roberto Baggio and other great stars once missed penalty kicks in their lifetime. Abeg pack your Kaya and leave those irredeemable fascist.

Story for the gods.

Alaye, flush, next time you will keep to the team's rules and protocols.

Even if you must break or bend it, then do it well by scoring or shu tting them up.

Why you rush show interest in taking the pk, do you expect the designated takers to oppose or drag it with you because they are the designated takers?
You dey talk as if them carry the ball come give you, tell you make you go take am.

See now. The coach is an ewu Gambia. Coaches who even lost games by a skin of the teeth don't complain not to talk of someone who lost by 5-2, a whopping humiliating goal margin. Count Lookman's PK as a goal and it would still have been 5-3 on agrgrrgate. What should Guardiola say to those players and keeper who gave out cheap goals to Madrid in the latter end of their last match if this one is talking like this? Olodo coach.

Which outshine? Which African player in the Serie A now had the type of impact Samuel Eto’o had when he was in Inter?

Not everything is racism.
