It is no longer news that Senator Natasha Akpoti has accused the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, of sexual harassment. However, how true are her claims? In law, they say, the best predictor of present and future allegations are your past accusations.

Some Nigerians may recall that this is not the first time the junior Senator from Kogi has made sexual allegations against prominent men.

On Tuesday, 12 October 2021, Senator Natasha Akpoti alleged that former Presidential spokesman Reno Omokri had sexually harassed her on 6 May 2014 during a state banquet for Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In response, Mr Omokri, known for his meticulous record-keeping, announced a $50,000 reward for anyone who could provide a photograph or video of him at the Uhuru Kenyatta banquet.

Mr Omokri thereafter provided evidence in the form of a British Airways ticket and Nigerian and American immigration stamps on his passport, proving he was not in the country during the event.

In fact, at the date and time when Senator Akpoti had alleged that he sexually harassed her, Mr Omokri was in the United States as a personal envoy of then President Jonathan, who sent him to the US to counter the negative publicity arising from the Chibok kidnapping. While in the US, Omokri met and was photographed with State Department officials.

Natasha Akpoti, who accused him, then deleted all traces of her accusation from her social media profiles.

Mr Omokri later posted that he had received a large sum of money as an out-of-court settlement.

Reno has a story about everything. I remember when he went around telling everyone that he gave birth to a son. People asked how it was possible since he was biologically male. He refused to elaborate.
