Imagine a crate of eggs 🥚 is sold for about 7k. Can you imagine the evil from these guys?
Why not try farming and tell us how easy it is. Una go de una house and want farmers to give you cheap agricultural produce that they suffered to farm. Do you how much is a day old chick? Or do you know how is a 25KG bag of chicken feed? Instead of you guys to tackle your government, you are blaming the poor farmers. The so called loans and agricultural inputs, how many farmers can access them, except for the politically connected ones? If there's abundance of farm produce, the price will crash. Irrespective of how wicked or greedy the farmers are. Give them enabling environment and see what will happen to food prices.

While I understand the need to ensure food sufficiency to prevent mass uprising , our farmers also have to be protected

We are too wicked in this country, a pal in taraba told me how farmers were balling. I know middle men(worse) who have made fortunes on sales of rice, beans and corn. Our beef and chicken is too expensive.

We need the imports oOoOO, see as Dangote refinery is giving importers hot hot 🥵🔥💥💣💯. That's the only way to get true value for goods and services. It's only in Nigeria that economic principles are defied 😕
well said.

Let them compete with international prices.
If they cannot keep up, they should fold up.

Masses will always buy the cheaper food. So they cant tell us nonsense about people preferring foreign food.

They claim farmers are cashing out big, but they themselves don't want to go into the farming

It's a very bad policy and farmers are already counting out their loses
We will import food since farmers no wan get sense.

Those borders Buhari locked, we will use them to import thousands of tons of food.
Those grains middlemen are stockpiling, you will cry over them.

Evil people...very greedy and self-centered wicked being. The ones wey be locally produced how e take help common man?.. 1 derica of beans #2,500 from #300. Basically na we be the problems of ourselves.
The major problem is the high cost of living, inflation.

They will sell at normal price if there's no high inflation, so we can't blame them dat much.

FG should do the needful, bring down inflation, subsidize agricultural production and encourage massive investment in the sector until supply exceed demand.

He told you "farmers were balling" but you don't want to go into farming. Don't you want to "ball" too? The rains will soon start, get one hectare and cultivate. Make sure you write every penny you're spending down. Then at the end of harvest, FG should allow massive imports of what you produced, then come back and make this comment. In fact, even if they don't allow import, just farm one year so that you too can ball. Shebi e easy? Or better still, be a middle man yourself. Be on Nigerian roads 24/7 since you think they are "balling".

A friend of mine just told me "he's balling" from Web 3, and I am already learning it online. I intend to travel to his place and be his mentee. Me sef want "ball".

It's funny how we want to develop our agric sector through small scale holders. The kind of competitive pricing we look forward to, no small scale farmer can offer such. We need people like Dangote, Otedola, and co to take over the sector. Nothing else will work. Nothing at all.

We've all seen what Dangote is doing with petrol. Right now, even the criminal NNPC can no longer compete. Same as the importers. The earlier we change our poverty mindset towards farming, the better. Agriculture is not for broke people. It's for individuals and corporations with billions of dollars.

These goats, under Buhari, after using over a trillion bucks to support farming, kidnapped the produce and called it blockafe because hausas were disciplined in Lagos.
Under Tinubu, Yorubas have been attacked in Karuna yet no southerner dare block a truck or tannker taking goods to northern Nigeria. Animals.

All the billions of naira that was spent on agriculture under Buhari, where are the results? Don't forget Buhari banned the importation of foodstuffs into Nigeria

Everyone up north is into storage of grains business; creating artificial scarcity and high price.
Let the border be open for at least two years to counter this bad business and bring down prices.

This is just our truth, we know there are challenges But the larger part of the inflation is greed inclined, those middlemen have corrupt local farmers completely just like house agents are opening landlords' eye

I will always commend Dangote for what he is doing in the oil market, he could have join them nd be cashing out big big ... give Nigerians a freehand and they will abuse it next min

So giving about N1-10m to selected farmers is how you want to compete with the international markets with investors like Bill Gates?

We should have also given illegal oil miners N10m each to compete with oil marketers like Oando and co 😂😂

If there's no importation of fuel, Dangote won't be reducing price like he is doing now

Why is he not reducing the price of cement? Government should stop the policy of banning importation

You guys are mad, Nigerian farmers are some of the most useless and heartless humans on earth. With all the both financial and other wise supports Buhari gave to Nigerian farmers, including the popular anchor borrowers scheme, instead of prices of locally produced foods to be going down, Nigerian farmers increases their prices.
Even here in Benin city, cassava is grown in large quantities in Ehor and from there it's turned to garri, a line of garri is sold for 8k... Something that shouldn't be more than 3k.
Infact, the FG should open the borders to the importation of all Agri products so that Nigerian farmers will have sense.
Imagine the FG had listened to Dangote and ban the importation of petroleum products, do you guys think Dangote would be bringing down his prices? Dangote brings his prices down because the landing cost for imported petroleum products became cheaper that his own.
Let the FG also allows the importation of cement and let's see if cement won't crash to like 5-7k
So the farmer will sell 3k and pay his bills from where? From the 3k?

How much is school fees now? How will the farmer's children pay as transport to school? How much are phones, televisions, cars, cement, blocks, timber, etc? You think that he won't like to own these? How much do service providers like artisans charge now?

Whether they are giving 1-10m to eacg farmer does not matter, what matter is that Government should lift the ban on food importation.

But you supported buhari when he closed borders then? You enumerated all the "benefits" of border closure by him then. We even saw the rice pyramids. What changed? I thought you guys have been posting threads of improvement in price of food commodities.

i dont know of a time we agreed cost of living was low in Nigeria, before Buhari close our boarder to foster local production, our local farm products were more affordable

Even if FG bring down inflation and all, Our farmers n middlemen greed wont let it yield, in Nigeria," ise kekere owo nla" is what we all desire
Re: Nigeria’s Agricultural Imports Policy Is Suicidal by adecz: 8:21am On Mar 04, 2025
Truth is simple..

Foodstuff are costly in Nigeria 🇳🇬 because
bad government policies makes farming a
very expensive venture..

Fertilizer that was being sold for 5k under PDP
and people were shouting, now goes for
between 35 to 55k.

Herbicides that were between 800 to 1200 are
now 7 to 10k for a litre.

How about transportation of inputs and
produce? High fuel ⛽️ costs has made it
extra expensive.
