They should compel them to do pay per view, every March this wiked South African company will ihike their subscription, they has been ripping Nigerians off. I was frustrated until I had to find a solution which is tvboxs, now even if DSTV returns the compact+ package I used to subscribe to 2k I no do again. These apps are giving me premium and latest movies that DSTV cannot offer on premium package. Now, DSTV can go to hell.

Use your money to buy data, and stream.
DSTV should be boycotted by Nigerians.

The hike is here to stay

Kiss the truth
Abi o.
Just as their own SUVs are here to stay.

[quote author=NLCreator post=126854133]Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, has defended the purchase of sports utility vehicles (SUVs) for members of the national assembly.

There have been reports that the leadership of the 10th national assembly has bought SUVs for all lawmakers.

Each SUV is said to be valued at N160 million.

The LP had asked members of the party in the national assembly to kick against “wastage”.

While responding to questions during a press conference in Abuja on Monday, the former governor of Anambra said the SUVs are not personal cars of the lawmakers, noting that they are for official use.

“Let me start with the issue of Labour Party members in the house. I have actually discussed this issue with them,” Obi said.

“Surprisingly, I can tell you I heard that these vehicles are official cars. They have to use it. It is meant for office.

“So it is not as if it is their vehicle. They said it is official cars and you are meant to use it while you are in the senate.”

Obi also hinted at contesting for the country’s number one position in 2027, adding that Nigeria deserves dedicated and visionary leaders who will lead the country towards a brighter future.

This HoR are no good personalities.
They are bothered about the price hike of DSTV that subscribers can at any point in time stop using and seek something more favourable....

Yet, they have allowed the price hike of cement up till today, the CBN rates been charged of users of ATMs at both on site and off site, the price hike of electricity tariffs, price hike of food stuffs, virtually all things that are most essential that one cant do without have increased, even the rates for airtime and data have increased as well.....they did nothing about it all and are worried about DSTV?

DSTV does not do pay per view, not as you think they do it.

Maybe for sporting events and box office, but not for regular subscriptions.

Plus, Nigeria pays lower than many other countries...

If you were running a business, and you had to increase prices because of this t-pain economic palaver, would you support the house of reps asking you to reduce your prices because 'people are suffering'?

It sounds like 'a good idea', until you realize that

1. We have startimes, which is part Nigerian owned.

2. Running a service like DSTV is very expensive. Paying for content, even local content , is very expensive. We don't have people with the kind of money that can do it. (see HiTV and TSTV which both failed because money was not enough). And asking government to bring money...when there are other more pressing needs, is not a good thing.

3.DSTV itself is losing money and ground to streaming services like Netflix, heck, even youtube. Especially in its home ground South Africa. And even here in Nigeria. So, government sponsoring a home grown alternative that would eventually lose out to streaming services, especially as internet coverage improves....not a good move.

na mumu dey use dstv. with my xiaomi tv box and apps like iptv extreme, stremio and more , cant use dstv... stopped using dstv years ago, android tv box and iptv to the world.
is it not data you will still use to watch those IPTV apps ? If you don't know IPTV consumes a lot of data and data is expensive since this drug lord forced himself in to power, you will even spend more money than to be using DStv
Re: Reps Demand Suspension Of DStv Subscription Rates Hike by DeGLORIOUS: 7:08am On Mar 05, 2025
Nigerians have no reason to meddle in the affairs of DSTV if our government sits well. Incooperate good channels into the FREETV and people will waste no time in abandoning DSTV. That's the only way to help the masses in that area if the government really meant it.

They are daft.....how do you claim you are liberalising the economy with reforms but want to control private entities from appropriate pricing of their products??

Your job is ti rneudre passing of bikls to engender competition and create more enabling enviroment for businesses.

The question to ask and I'll respond to is if the increase in price meets the quality of the service been offered or rendered to me has improved, then a fair and just hike in price is better.
But if the increase in price of such services rendered only result in downward reduction of quality and quantity of products.....then it's a complete no, no.

And yet you expect more cooperation to come and invest, when there is always one form of price cap or d other.
If I have a billion $ to invest, I won't take it to where government is always regulating prices

Leave them let them increase so as to be able to run their business.
The price increase will weed out a lot of Nigerians and they will also loose revenue
It might give birth to competition or when multichoice loses 70% of its customers it will tailor its services to be more affordable by Nigerians

DSTV is a business firm. The Reps can make it open for others to compete in the market. You can't demand they charge certain amount which may not cover their expenses. Note they pay fees themselves to air some programmes

The lawmakers are a big part of Nigeria problems. Let Dstv settle them now, I'm very sure you won't hear anything again. The people are the ones who will bear the burnt.

Nigeria will be great again.

That's what they should be doing, and not detecting Multichoice what to charge, unless they cut the tax dor them.
But allowing and supporting local stations amubforce DSTV reduce their tariff

Honestly I don’t know what some people are still doing with this ripoff of a dstv, when I can watch virtually every thing they offer on social media platforms with much lesser amount of money,,it’s only in Nigeria they do this rubbish and the parent country South Africa 🇿🇦 would never allow foreign companies to operate and thrive successfully in South Africa without taking over such companies.
no loud am make dem no strike 3Rd party apps like they did with hesgoal. It is a thing they can do all these top media companies like Warner ABC and NBC can meet with alphabet to disallow use of third party apps. Meaning to dey watch ball and media go come hard

Misplaced priority, The new exorbitant bank charges, increase in network fees and the planned increase on phcn charges all of these that affects citizens most should be the most priorities which legislators supposed intervened on.
