Antifreeze and water are mixed to create coolant, which circulates throughout the cooling system to control engine temperature. The coolant that passes through the car's engine absorbs the heat that the engine produces while it is running and transports the heat absorbed out of the engine block to the radiator to cool off to be returned to the engine in a circulatory fashion.

WARNING!

If you're in Nigeria or the tropics in general, do not buy or use coolant. If you have too much money and excessive love for your car, go and buy distilled water and put in radiator after flushing all the coolant out. I personally use rain water and you obviously don't need too much if your cooling system is fine (not leaking).

There are mostly disadvantages living in Nigeria but this is the one place there's an advantage. Ditto the people I hear who use 0w30 oil in their engines. Omo, una don go abload before to check out what their temperatures read there? In winter ordinary water will freeze and break their engine. Fela said "if you dey follow follow, make you open eye open sense… "

Trust me I've bought my own share of coolant and some still remain somewhere sef by the time I realised how silly I was and jettisoned the thing from my radiator.

Coolant is not nearly as efficient in removing heat from engines as water. It is used in temperate climates to prevent freezing.

So are you saying the only job of a coolant is its antifreeze capability?
What about preventing rust, lubricating water pump, increasing boiling point, amongst others?

The problem I have with coolants in Nigeria are that most of them are just water with colored dyes. Anyone knows if one can get glycol to buy so that one can make one yourself?

Use distilled water from your AC. It works like magic and the cooling system tripples. All coolant in naija are fake, except abro that looks like can. I thinknits abt 2500 per liter. The original yellow silver can, like canned pepsi

Coolant or water anyone you choose to use are all the same,, it doesn't reduce heat or do anything special..
The only thing coolant does is to prevent internal rust like radiator, water pump and hose plugs down to sensors connected to water channels, it prevents them from rusting and makes them last longer

No

I'll rather buy premixed

Premixed is better

We don't have antifreeze coolant in Nigeria. And besides that one is expensive.

Just buy the anti rust to prolonged your radiator life and engine.

Anti freeze, reduces the boiling point of water bross.SO your Engine wont lose coolant plus if you have one of them heat exchange for your gear box like mine does, the over heat might burn it then water will mix with your gear oil then problem go start.

You my friend is wrong, it does reduce the rate at which the liquid increase or decrease.

i have tested them both on leaking radiator that was causing overheating. Water boils and expands real fast. But coolant boils less and take longer time.

Once a small amount of water leak from radiator the vacuum creates an explosion pressure as the water boils.

Despite the fact we might have inferior coolant in Nigeria. The coolant is still by far better than water.

I think you miss understood what the coolant is. Ready mix coolant is 50/50.If you buy a concentrated one then you have to mix it with water 50/50.The cooling system is a vacuum. When the coolant expand it is meant to go to the expansion tank aka reservoir.
The 2 basic functions of coolant mix is reduce boiling point and anti rust properties. Hats if you got an original one.
I bought 25ltrs of concentrated one from London and shipped it back to PH, that's what we use for all our cars.
