The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) has confirmed that over a dozen personnel from the Nigerian Air Force base at Sam Ethnan Barracks, Ikeja, stormed its office on Thursday morning, assaulting staff and vandalizing property.

Speaking to News360 Nigeria, IKEDC spokesperson Kingsley Okotie revealed that the military personnel arrived at the office with a truck around 8 a.m. and began flogging employees.

“They came in with their truck, beating our staff. They even took my laptop, and now most staff can’t find their phones since they left,” Okotie said.

Explaining the reason for the invasion, he stated that the military base had been disconnected from electricity 10 days ago due to an outstanding debt of over N4 billion.

“They molested and assaulted our staff. They went away with about 16 of our vehicles, forcing our drivers to move them. They destroyed all our offices, stole laptops and phones, and damaged our IT infrastructure, even disabling all our CCTV cameras,” he added.

As of the time of this report, there has been no official response from the Nigerian Air Force regarding the allegations.

Nigeria military officers are one of if not the most undisciplined officers you can find anywhere in the world. They have no regard for law and order whereas they should be the disciplined ones. Barracks are the highest electricity debtors in Nigeria. If you know you don't like the billings of electricity distribution companies you can ask them to disconnect you from national grid afterall there are people that have disconnected themselves from national grid and switched to alternative means of electrical power. Shey dem want to dey use light for free ni?

This is a very bad action from the military and highly condemnable.

But we have to look at what led to it. They are owning you N4bn and you disconnected their light. I can't blame IKEDC because you have right to demand for your payment but sometimes una too dey overdooo

Recently, a friend that attends Presbyterian church, Yaba said they were disconnected. You guys insisted on billing them 4.5m per month, they reached out to you to acquire as many meter as possible and connect to various buildings in the church compound, you guys refused and insisted on billing them on postpaid basis for your selfish reasons.

They have already moved to Solar generation and usage of generator.

I believe this is exactly many Government build and parastatals comes to owe you so much. Why not migrate them to prepaid and let them manage their electricity themselves.
