My Boss Met Me Having Virtual Interview In The Office by 1phone(op): 5:13pm On Mar 06, 2025
I won’t take much of your time with a long story. You may remember that late last month, I mentioned my boss refusing to pay my salary. At the time, I explained my situation and asked for advice on my next move, considering I don’t have an appointment letter to support any legal action.

Since then, I’ve taken some of the advice given—I started job hunting and have attended several interviews, both physical and virtual.

Fast forward to this morning: one of the companies I interviewed with shortlisted me for the next stage, which was scheduled as a virtual interview at 10:00 AM. I acknowledged the email without trying to reschedule since my boss and his wife usually resume work around 1–2 PM.

However, 15 minutes into the interview, my boss unexpectedly arrived. He headed straight to my office, and I noticed someone standing nearby, eavesdropping. I didn’t think much of it—until I realized it was him. He had heard everything! He then walked into my office and, without saying much, informed me that he had listened to my interview conversation. I greeted him, but there was complete silence before he left.

Honestly, I’m exhausted from working at this company but stayed back to secure another job before leaving. To make matters worse, I still haven’t been paid for last month.

My Questions:
Will I still get my salary, knowing that I plan to resign?
Do you think my boss will fire me before I resign?
What should my next move be, and how should I handle my relationship with him before leaving?

At this point, your boss already knows you’re on your way out, so there’s a good chance he might withhold your salary out of spite or even fire you first, best move now is to stay professional, keep things cool, and push for your payment while quietly locking in that new job.

Since you're not sure, he will pay your next salary, why not just resign in peace? And pray you get the job you were interviewed for

If he didn't ask or tell you anything, you too should pretend as if nothing happened. Just be doing your work. Things will work out for you.
He may also change and be good to you for the fear of loosing you.

Re: My Boss Met Me Having Virtual Interview In The Office by SINisSIN(m): 8:26pm On Mar 06, 2025
Don't over think yourself about this. Remain professional and carry out your duties normally. Expect he mentioned it, don't discuss anything relating to the interview with him or any of your colleagues.

I pray the new job comes through for you. Once your appointment letter is ready, just get out from this one.
Re: My Boss Met Me Having Virtual Interview In The Office by Chuksgeo: 8:26pm On Mar 06, 2025
Make the move first by demanding for your payment so that he won’t have much excuse as to refusing, in case you go legal, especially as you don’t have an engagement/appointment letter

Why will he withold his salary for the month he worked? Is that not his entitlement?

You should be happy at this point.
It means you have other alternatives
Perhaps you won't work for hom forever.

You don't need to inform him when you're ready to leave.
Re: My Boss Met Me Having Virtual Interview In The Office by Gr8mind07(m): 8:27pm On Mar 06, 2025
Try all you can to avoid attending a virtual interview in your office. Employers see it as an abuse of the company's resources and they hardly tolerate it.

However just as one of the posters above said, if you are good at your work, he wouldn't want you to leave

Just keep your cool and expect the unexpected.
Your chances of getting your salary is 50 - 50.
Your boss may fire you or he may decide to allow you to resign peacefully.
Your relationship with him should be a cordial employer - employee relationship

As long as you didn't lie against him in your interview, you have nothing to fear.

His conscience will judge him for withholding your salary and making you seek other alternatives.

Que sera sera, afterall dem no bury your placenta there.
