Let's not go back and forth over the inappropriateness of 'attending' a new job interview on the premises of your current employer, and possibly utilizing their other resources as well during the virtual session.

Simply accept the worst scenario and you won't be shocked what card your disgruntled boss serves you.

Best of luck with the new job!

I won’t take much of your time with a long story. You may remember that late last month, I mentioned my boss refusing to pay my salary. At the time, I explained my situation and asked for advice on my next move, considering I don’t have an appointment letter to support any legal action.

Since then, I’ve taken some of the advice given—I started job hunting and have attended several interviews, both physical and virtual.

Fast forward to this morning: one of the companies I interviewed with shortlisted me for the next stage, which was scheduled as a virtual interview at 10:00 AM. I acknowledged the email without trying to reschedule since my boss and his wife usually resume work around 1–2 PM.

However, 15 minutes into the interview, my boss unexpectedly arrived. He headed straight to my office, and I noticed someone standing nearby, eavesdropping. I didn’t think much of it—until I realized it was him. He had heard everything! He then walked into my office and, without saying much, informed me that he had listened to my interview conversation. I greeted him, but there was complete silence before he left.

Honestly, I’m exhausted from working at this company but stayed back to secure another job before leaving. To make matters worse, I still haven’t been paid for last month.

My Questions:
Will I still get my salary, knowing that I plan to resign?
Do you think my boss will fire me before I resign?
What should my next move be, and how should I handle my relationship with him before leaving?

Remove all your personal items from the office and come to work everyday as if it is your last day at work, because it could really be. If you ask me, you no longer have a salaried employment. Your employer is aggressively seeking for your replacement. Know this, know peace

Your boss might even dialogue with you and try to make you stay. Just keep your fingers crossed. But don't stay no mater what he says. Remember Xavi Barca coach, he notified his employer that he will be leaving at the end of the season, however he was persuaded to stay only to be sack at the end of the season.

Honestly, I am curious to ask how people do interviews on jobs before remote became a thing.

If he didn't ask or tell you anything, you too should pretend as if nothing happened. Just be doing your work. Things will work out for you.
He may also change and be good to you for the fear of loosing you.
This is true, if you are very valuable to him, he may not want to loose you. He may even call you for discussion

.....fight it to the end bro. Never give up. We can only imagine what your boss could do. But let him decide yet. Don't die before the arrival of death.
Wish you good luck 🤞

Similar to a situation I once found myself. But in my own case, my employer was the head of the interview panel🤣🤣🤣! Omo, I just went in bold and unapologetic. The woman saw the determination on my face, she didn't say a word throughout the interview session! I already knew I would lost at both ends, so why not say my mind the way it is. It was one thing I did that I look back to and still thank myself for doing it. It makes me laugh every time I remember the situation.

1phone, don't feel bothered. In saner climes, it's a crime to delay salaries of employees. Such a company can be summoned to answer serious queries by employer-employees regulatory bodies.

But you know, we are in Naija. I believe you will be given the new job as far as you made it to the second stage.

How some employers are fond of withholding employees salaries really baffles me. How does he expect you to feed.

If I were you, I won't feel bothered. If he decides to sack you without paying you your salary, so be it. You will be fine and I believe you will get the new job. Keep your hope alive.

Your goose is cooked! You are fired for cheating your workplace by using the time and facilities you are paid for to interview for a job elsewhere.

At this point, your boss already knows you’re on your way out, so there’s a good chance he might withhold your salary out of spite or even fire you first, best move now is to stay professional, keep things cool, and push for your payment while quietly locking in that new job.

Good for you, count yourself lucky. He should come begging that you shouldn't leave, since your role is very important

I didn't get the new job, yet I resigned the one I had a month later. The woman was actually afraid to sack me considering what she went through before she got me.
