The fact is that late Doyin Okupe was actually the first person to ACTIVELY, BOLDLY and SELFLESSLY joined Peter Obi in his 2023 presidential pursuit. PDP. He followed him around in spite of his health challenges. It is only right that Peter Obi honour his memory.

Yes, financial challenges later drove him to President Tinubu's camp but it should noted, for history, that he boldly campaigned against Tinubu at the crucial election period not minding the ethnic affiliation they shared.

Rest in Peace, Doyin.

In 1958, Azikiwe’s party, NCNC, won majority seats in the West and Azikiwe was going to be the Premier of Western region until Awolowo introduced Ronu a night before the inauguration of the House and got Yoruba members who won elections in NCNC to defect to AG (Action Group) and give him the majority to win the Premiership.

But later at independence, and even when Nigeria became a republic in 1963, Azikiwe’s NCNC and Ahmadu Bello’s NPC came together to form the government with NPC producing the Prime Minister in Tafawa Balewa and NCNC producing the president in Azikiwe.

Again, at the return of democracy in 1979, the North and the East came together again to form government with Shehu Shagari as president and Alex Ekwueme as Vice President.

In 1999, Yorubas voted Olu Falae but the north and the East came together to vote Obasanjo into power.

The first time your region ever won against the East, since independence, was in 2015 when Tinubu supported a buffoon called Buhari to power because of his popularity.

So, which elections did you win against the east since independence to justify your claim of whipping our asses since independence?

Or are you just another sorry victim of withdrawal of History from the Nigerian school curriculum?

The way it works is that everyone must not agree on the same thing.

While many of you were still reeling from #EndSARS protests and not knowing where to go, Doyin Okupe was the first to throw his hat in the ring for Peter Obi. Using his own funds, he made several visits to several leaders like Ayo Adebanjo, who eventually supported Peter Obi. He was one of those who pushed for a special purpose vehicle when it was clear PDP was not interested in Peter Obi.

When he was convicted of money laundering from the Dasukigate, he resigned as Director General of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organization in order not to taint the campaign.

After the elections, he admitted the truth many of you have failed to admit today. He admitted that Obi lost fair and square. Obi himself knew that he lost, which was why he went to the tribunal to try to taint the winner of the election with alleged double nomination of the APC running mate (a matter that was settled by the Supreme Court on 26th May 2023), drug forfeiture (that the US Embassy said there was none), and sundry accusations. Obi never proved he won, he was just taking his mob on a merry go round and wasting everyone's time. Doyin Okupe wanted none of that. He was insulted, maligned and mocked.

What many did not know was that he was already terminally ill while he supported Peter Obi. If he wanted money, he would not have supported Obi.

He did not die because he stopped supporting Obi. He died from complications of cancer.

Those mocking him will also die when their time comes.

I did not agree with Doyin Okupe, but you could see a man who was driven by his beliefs, almost to the point of fanaticism. Without him, Obi would not have received support from many people who never saw him as a president material.

To his credit, Doyin Okupe built the Peter Obi brand. No matter how much Doyin is hated and mocked in death, that is a fact of history that can never be erased.

May his family find comfort and the fortitude to process this loss at this time.

I always disliked Doyin Okupe from his NRC to PDP days... then LP. But he at the risk of his life, supported Obi all through.

But Obidients blaming him for Peter Obi's loss... will Doyin force millions of Northerners to thumbprint for Obi ?
