I keep asking this question. People leave their homes to go visit orphans at the orphanage homes, take gifts and other stuffs to them, snap pictures and post online. The Truth is very simple. If your Brothers children are hungry and need help, yet you ignore them and go to motherless babies home to do charity, you're just wasting your time. You have a neighbor who is genuinely in need, but you ignore him and go to the orphanage homes, you're deceiving yourselves. Some persons only help when they can take pictures. Some help only when their names can be published for everyone to see. To them it's a show off. Christians are fond of doing this. Even the bible says we shouldn't let our left hand to know what our right hand is giving out. You see this people giving out publicly, if you meet them privately and request for help, they won't answer you. And if they answer you, it's simply a matter of , I'm sorry I don't have. Only a few people help genuinely. |

True but not every hungry person beyond the walls of an orphanage deserves assistance. Many now are vicious dogs that need strength of the assistance to bite and bite you savagely. It's far better and safer to channel your help to motherless babies homes and orphanages. Most times,I don't blame those who channel their aid exclusively to these places. |

Onyiiobi7735:You have a point. Owners(some) of these motherless babies homes are fraudulent. They open it just for business and to extort the public |

I don't see why or how you can dictate to others where they should do their charity... Do yours where you please, it's actually simple |

Squere:I love this discussion. It is something that has been bothering for quite a while. Who to help and when to help is quite a dynamic context. As said, many orphanage home owners are in it for business. What assurance to do have that whatever you take there is fully utilized for the needs of the orphans? In a broader context, the logistics, staffs and workers are paid salaries too and they can easily justify some of these things. Just like NGOs too. Now looking at the part of having neighbors around you or people closer to you who need help. It's quite challenging to really understand. You can imagine someone who needs help only when it's time to pay school fees, but you'd see doing omblee or posting "na this one life I get" when they have little change in their pockets which shows a lack of discipline when it comes to savings for rainy days. I personally believe helping random people that I do not know, or do not have an idea how their lives work is a better option. So say, I see a stranger hungry and I get you food (not money). Or someone who needs medical attention and I pay the bills cos you can't (not give you money). Or I know a struggling parent (or single parent) and I choose to pay your child's school fees (one child, not all). Just very random kinda helps and assistance. |

teeteepeejay:God bless you Sir. I'm glad we share same view. Sir, I know of two orphanage homes here that the owners sell these children to the highest bidders. I don't know why the govt isn't doing anything regarding this. They sell these children. I mean, Sell. |

Squere:You would be amazed how complicit the govt can be even at this. However, people make governments anyway. Humans are just terrible. |

Squere:Direct this at your pastors and church people who ignore the suffering of their members, the same members from whom they collect all the money they donate to Orphanages. These same pastors who sell you all on Christianity are the same elements who advise their members to ignore the needs and plight of their family members to ensure tithes and offering money always dey for them to pay in church every church service. ![]() |
