This is very very very unlikely to happen. The most likely problem is LEAKING ROOF. it happens almost all the time. When my guy installed, his roof started leaking. I installed, the same thing. Few other friends I know installed, their roofs started leaking

Seriously, I don't have any issues with my tenants because we all behave like family. I have six tenants, and each of them has been a blessing; one even repaired the rain-damaged road lately. But this image truly grabbed me, and I'm afraid. I plan to include solar with their next rental... Recently, I've been surviving on rent.

They were on their way back for holidays. The house and 2 cars were destroyed.

I infact bought this Huawei Imverter but I'm so scared to even install it ... the inverter will stand on the ground but the panels worry me.

The wise thing to do is to investigate what led to the fire and avoid it when installing yours.....Employ the services of qualified personels instead of quacks.

If you ask for permission, get competent installers, repair any leaks, I don't see why not.

With one 600w panel, about 50% of my energy needs are settled already.
Incidents like a solar panel burning on the roof are a rarity, you are more likely to get a direct lightning strike on the panels than a fire.

Install all your breakers and SPD, buy your panels from Fouani like you got your Huawei to ensure you are not buying fake panels.

If you use fake wires indoors for your wiring, that's the same scenario that causes a fire.

so how can we be so sure the solar panel was the reason for the inferno? We just installed a six solar panel at home and it’s barely just a month, so far it been working fine and a better alternative to generator……I Will encourage anyone who as the mean to get a solar powered electricity if they have the means. Btw I don’t believe this nonsense.

Use a professional. A tenant can write an indemnity letter to the landlord; to repair or replace damages resulting from such installation.

Finally, landlords!! Insure your buildings. They are investments.

Wrong wire gauges, improper wiring, positive and negative bridging, +ve contact with metal roof. Several reasons, it could be.

that picture is fake or the cause of the fire is not solar panels...solar panels does not over load .never .. nothing like that...the inverter or battery yes .but not the panel..the work of the panels is simply go charge the battery,there is no load on the panel..the op is just a fear monger and should be highly discouraged.

Overload of the battery can affect the panel. I mentioned overload of solar power.
Just like electricity, everything can burn when too much load is on it (change over get burnt), why? because everything is connected.
I understand the wiring etc part too. I've not seen one physically burn but people have worked with have seen, in this same Nigeria.

Is transformer usually or even supposed to be close to a living house? Isn't transformer always isolated with some space from a living house and where people may gather ?

Solar panel are not suppose to be on top of a roof because of the explosion danger it pose. In developed countries, solar panel are mounted on its own using scaffolding or similar things.

Thanks a lot. More reassuring. I watched that Fisayo's video on YouTube. That made me buy. Would buy panels from then. Their installation costs too was ridiculous. Maybe 130k or 170k MINUS cost of materials. Can't recall. But better safe than sorry.

Is this another way of discouraging people from using solar and there by take food away from some people's table because I've never seen this before.

I had to read this thread from the first page.
I was shit scared cuz I have solar panels on the roof without a hanger.
Maybe I will have to tell them to put them on roof hangers... Although I believe solar panel can't generate that sort of fire
