I helped to off one some two months ago in my village, the technician came from Lago to install it and it caught fire two days after.
Majority of these type of problem is under size or fake wire, poor insulation of wire joint. Ours has been on our roof for over five years now and no issues. I do routine check at least twice a year.

This is serious.

Well, i guess that other external factors or appliances in the house, lead to the fire. Not directly from the solar or panel.
AdolfHitlerxXx:
They were on their way back for holidays. The house and 2 cars were destroyed.

I infact bought this Huawei Imverter but I'm so scared to even install it ... the inverter will stand on the ground but the panels worry me.

There should always be a space in-between in the panel and the roof approximately 6-7 inches apart or rather mount the panel on fence if landlord no gree you put for roof grin grin

Abbeytoy:

U will not also allow gas cylinders cos they explode too,
Feeble minded people, because of ur type, thats why Nigeria can never grow
Backward minded people full this country

Hot plate, generator, boiling ring, gas and candles have burnt down houses than anything else

But here they are talking about something that has a low probability of 0.001% of happening

I will never allow solar panel to be mounted on my roof as a landlord...

May God save us from fire disasters
You should include gas cookers too.
I've heard of fire disasters from gas cookers, I've never heard of it from solar panels

the possibility is zero..this OP is just been mischievous... solar panels do not generate that can of power that can burn or ignite anything..where the transformation comes into play is in the inverter..if you say that one is catching fire..I can believe you..but a solar panel?very highly unlikely.
That's why it's good to be properly enlightened about how these things work

A solar panel generates between 21 to 43volts... My brother, how 43volts wan take cause fire and then burn down house?

Something that isn't even inflammable in the first place abi shey dem pour petrol for the solar panels ni?

If anything would blow up, it should be charge controller, inverter or battery

I have in my house in Lagos but will like to upgrade the one in the villa. Let's talk as soon as you are able. You may please send me a mail. My preference will be to buy more panels and probably get a bigger inverter (at the market cost) and then pay the installer

The advantage you get from them installing it, besides the peace of mind, is that in case of any failure, your warranty claim is made easier.

In my opinion, you really have nothing to fear; you have already chosen a reputable brand for your batteries and inverter. Ride on Chief.
AdolfHitlerxXx:
Thanks a lot. More reassuring. I watched that Fisayo's video on YouTube. That made me buy. Would buy panels from then. Their installation costs too was ridiculous. Maybe 130k or 170k MINUS cost of materials. Can't recall. But better safe than sorry.

Seriously, if you must install solar on a rented apartment, you should use a stand to elevate the panes-
Standard lease provides clauses for such appurtenances. Parties agree before execution of the lease agreement

Seriously, I don't have any issues with my tenants because we all behave like family. I have six tenants, and each of them has been a blessing; one even repaired the rain-damaged road lately. But this image truly grabbed me, and I'm afraid. I plan to include solar with their next rental... Recently, I've been surviving on rent.
I promise u it's safe I have been using it close to 15yrs now, my recent rented apartment, my landlord bought his as soon as he saw how I was enjoying mine, nothing concern me with national grid collapse , I sleep with my fan every night

For optimum solar exposure..... Unless it's a big compound where solar mounts can be installed. It's like cases of phone batteries exploding - one in a million occurrence.

Point me gun, I no go believe those pictures. If they were real, we would've heard many cases of such happening.
I've been going through comments here and have seen the set of people advocating against the panels then I remembered a certain senator last year or so has even advocated for the complete ban of solar panels and even generators in Nigeria with one of his arguments being that electricity will be forced to improve if people have no alternatives. There's a 70% possibility that this is a kite to gauge people perception and that they're coming for your panels pretty soon

Why not ask them to repair the hole while leaving instead of asking them to leave them behind while vacating. When a new tenant comes in you will now claim that you did it and charge for it. Typical Nigerian landlord cheating on people!
If you were a landlord, would you make this comment? Think about it.

The problem with most Nigerians is that they have tenants' mentality, so they hardly see things from the landlord's angle.
