lf you are paying attention to all I wrote you will not be making this argument. Canada was not proposing any new tariff on US until Trump decided to punish them with tariff for fentanyl, and Canada tariff on China's EVs is straightforward action done to protect local production, which is similar to EU tariff on same China's EVs.

How do you compare this with a President imposing tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China because of fentanyl and also went after EU at the same time?
You claimed imposing tariffs on multiple countries at the same time was the problem, But Canada is imposing on US and China at the same time(remember the crime of same time that Trump committed)

If others are justified to protect their local production, Its the US that does not have the right to protect its own local production

If an enemy of the US has to make a statement, it cant be worse than what you just said.

Others have a right to use tariffs to protect themselves, but how dare Trump does the same thing

China is imposing on EU, Canada and US AT THE SAME TIME (Same time crimes of Trump)

Elon Musk said empathy is a weakness when he was on Joe Rogan’s show trying to convince his mumu supporters that they don’t deserve to receive the social security they’ve been paying into for decades. He said it’s a ponzi scheme. Hear that. The money they’ve been taking from your paycheck every month with the promise that you can depend on it for your retirement is now a ponszi scheme.

When that didn’t go down well the way he thought, he went on Fox News and damn near shed tears because he’s now operating his business with “great difficulty”.

Elon were we supposed to have empathy for you? Remember it’s a weakness. And you abhor weak people.

I don’t know what people who were lamenting about the cost of eggs prior to the election can do to support a billionaire like you so that you don’t loose more billions.

Ramdeuter stop wasting your time with this guy. His arguments are childish and are poor excuses to complain for no reason.

What kind of argument is Canada's tariff on China is straight forward action to protect local products. You say tariff hurt people now u say it protects people.

Well, jokes on you. From your own statement you said trumps tariff was imposed because of fentanyl to protect people in one way or the other right?

Putting tariff to protect local production but complain if it is done by trump. EU puts tarriff to protect their cars but trump can't do the same to protect manufacturing and cars in the US.

This is a childish to argue
When Trump does tariffs, it hurts people, when Canada does tariffs, it protect people.

That was why nateevs dodged the tariff argument because there is no way you can justify it for others and claim its an issue when Trump does it, What that will do is to expose your severe TDS. The reason for engaging them is to show that its simple TDS worry them nothing more

Canada EU, China everyone can use tariff to protect their local production but how dare Trump or America? Is it because Americans dont need the jobs created from local production

One thing COVID and the supply chain problems that came with it should have taught us is to bring our manufacturing locally or at worst close by. We depended on other countries for long for essentials and COVID showed us the dangers of that. Given that our balls are literally in their hands, US economy suffered because of supply chain issue

Wont it be better if we are manufacturing in USA itself, creating jobs for our people.

The S&P 500

′s rapid 10% decline from a record high into correction territory has wiped out trillions of dollars in market value.

The market value of the S&P 500 at its Feb. 19 peak was $52.06 trillion, according to FactSet. Thursday’s decline put the index’s market value down to $46.78 trillion.

That makes for a total loss of about $5.28 trillion in about three weeks.

Oh they already plan to do that. Can’t have the dear leader in any more negative light that he already is.

I posted it here last week or so when he first made the asinine statement. And in typical fashion their resident boot licker said it was a lie. The commerce secretary was saying it himself. He plans to do it if he can get away with it.

This administration? You don’t need to go find any negative news about them. The negativity permeates.

Unlike other administrations where we have to make up stuff to be mad about. Like he wore a tan suit. Or uses fancy mustard for his burger. Or him taking his wife out on a date. We really struggled to find scandal.

Every month, the federal government serves up a steady diet of economic reports on everything from the price of groceries to the unemployment rate. These reports are closely followed: They can move markets — and the president’s approval rating.

Businesses and investors put a lot of stock in the numbers, which are rigorously vetted and free from political spin.

Now the Trump administration is calling that trust into question.

The government recently disbanded two outside advisory committees that used to consult on the numbers, offering suggestions on ways to improve the reliability of the government data.

At the same time, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has suggested changing the way the broadest measure of the economy — gross domestic product — is calculated.

Those moves are raising concerns about whether economic data could be manipulated for political or other purposes.

Among those raising the alarm is Erica Groshen. She’s one of the outside experts who received a terse email last week saying her services were no longer needed, because the committee she’d served on — the Federal Economic Statistics Advisory Committee — had been folded.

Groshen cares deeply about the reliability of government data, having previously overseen the number crunching as commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

“Statistical agencies live and die by trust,” she says. “If the numbers aren’t trustworthy, people won’t use them to make important decisions, and then you might as well not publish them.”

In this 2014 photo, Erica Groshen testifies before the Joint Economic Committee. She's seated in front of a microphone and is wearing a dark top and glasses.
Erica Groshen used to oversee the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which produces the monthly jobs report and the consumer price index. Here, Groshen testifies before the Joint Economic Committee in January 2014, when she was commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Alex Wong
The email to Groshen, along with a note on the committee’s website, said the commerce secretary had terminated the committee because its purpose had been fulfilled. A second committee that advises the government’s Bureau of Economic Analysis was also discontinued.

That puzzled Groshen, who’s now a senior labor market adviser at Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations. She says taking an accurate measure of a dynamic economy is an ever-evolving process.

“It is part of the mission of statistical agencies to be continually improving,” Groshen says.

Changing how GDP is calculated

The email Groshen received came just days after Lutnick said he planned to alter the formula for calculating gross domestic product (GDP).

“You know the Commerce Department runs the statistics of GDP,” Lutnick told Fox News. “Governments historically have messed with GDP. They count government spending as part of GDP. So I’m going to separate those two and make it transparent.”

Lutnick argued that subtracting government spending from the calculation would present a more accurate picture of the economy. He appeared to echo an argument that President Trump’s billionaire adviser Elon Musk made on social media, suggesting that much of what government spends money on doesn’t make people’s lives better.

In this photo, Howard Lutnick stands next to President Trump, who is seated in the Oval Office. Lutnick is wearing a suit and tie and has a beard.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has advocated removing government spending from the way gross domestic product is calculated, saying it would provide a more accurate picture. However, that would mark a break from the way GDP has been estimated.
Anna Moneymaker

Such a change, however, would be a major break from both long-standing practice and international standards. It could also serve to mask any negative effects of the Trump administration’s spending cuts

Another thing to blame Trump for

Measles cases in the European region surged last year to reach their highest levels since 1997, the World Health Organization and the UN’s children agency, UNICEF, said Thursday.

An analysis by WHO and UNICEF found the number of measles cases reported in European region reached 127,352 in 2024, double the reported number from the previous year.

Ex. Trump's metals tariffs his first term did more harm to the economy than it helped.
It caused price increases and decreased production for products using metals.
That is where some of that inflation came from.
Anyone who owned a home during Covid knew how expensive everything got. Part of that was the metals tarriffs.

An economic analysis published by the U.S. International Trade Commission, an independent, bipartisan agency, suggested that the overall costs to the U.S. economy from Mr. Trump’s first term metal tariffs outweighed the gains.

The study found that the metal tariffs levied in 2018 encouraged buyers of steel and aluminum to purchase more from U.S. sources, led to higher domestic prices for metals and expanded U.S. steel production by about 2 percent between 2018 and 2021, the years the report studied.

But the analysis also found that the tariffs raised production costs for firms making automobiles, tools and industrial machinery, shrinking production in those and other downstream industries by about $3.48 billion in 2021. The steel and aluminum industries produced about $2.25 billion more in metals that year because of the levies.
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/12/us/politics/trump-tariffs-steel-aluminum.html
Also, for the US to produce more metals like Aluminum they would need to build more smelters, which takes years to build and is highly energy intensive.
With Trump trying to be the bitcoin capital where is that energy coming from?

Trump's past tariffs and current tariffs have been and will be overall bad for the economy as he doesn't seem to understand or account for their reciprocal effects.

You are right, it is the work of Enemies Within colluding with external forces. Trump should immediately use the military to arrest all the enemies within that are complaining about the tariff and jail them for treasons.

And he should double the original tariff he 1st imposed on those countries that are complaining and bringing counter tariffs, so they can sit up and respect their master; the super power.

The country's air force has recommended buying Lockheed Martin F-35s, but when outgoing Defense Minister Nuno Melo was asked by Portugese media Público whether the government would follow that recommendation, he replied: “We cannot ignore the geopolitical environment in our choices. The recent position of the United States, in the context of NATO ... must make us think about the best options, because the predictability of our allies is a greater asset to take into account."

Not only that. The big jump in housing prices in 2019 still plaguing us now is from his timber tariffs on Canada.
People have such short memories. I remember clearly like it was yesterday. Because in the grand scheme of things it’s really only yesterday. Biden did his best to try reverse the blunders he made. They never gave him grace. Yet he quietly and calmly worked for everyone.
No drama. No scandal. No porn star debacles. Or supporting rapists. Or lusting after his daughter. Or mistress drama. Or scamming. And stiffing his contractors. The list of absurdities with Trump is endless

Look at Nebraska farmers crying about impending bankruptcy. Trump’s first go around almost bankrupted farmers. Biden came and rescued them. They got better and forgot what happened during Trump’s first term. And viola here they are again. Like chickens to the slaughter. They do not have an iota of deductive reasoning.

I don't seem to understand you. The issue is that Canada massively tarriffs American products , but America didn't have the same level tariffs. Your brethren do not want to indicate the tarriffs ,so I posted it
That should not be more difficult than learning Greek to anyone who intelligent enough to sign up and use nairaland.
Are those tarriffs not in place,if so what are the correct ones.Correct me by releasing the actual figures.
Here’s a brief overview of the top tariffed American dairy products by Canada:
Milk: 200%
Cheese: Over 200% (varies by type)
Butter: Over 200%
Yogurt: Over 200%
Ice Cream: Over 200%
When I said you guyz are dishonest I meant it by 100!

If the word intelligent means anything, you would know that same diary products get imported into Canada duty free and only get high tariff when it exceed certain limit, you don't expect Canada to allow over subsidize USA diary production flooding it market and hurting its own local production. Same agreement your lord Trump was proud about years ago.

Republican lawmakers are running from their constituents. They’ve been advised to stay away from town halls for now. This one thought he would be different

.
Republican Congressman Chuck Edwards, R-N.C., was confronted by angry constituents during a town hall meeting on Thursday night about President Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s sweeping cuts across the government.

“How do you justify cuts to staff of the VA helping veterans, especially those with long term care needs,” asked one constituent who was met with a standing ovation from the raucous crowd in Asheville, North Carolina.

“So first of all, there have been no cuts to the staff at VA as of this point. Like him or not, Elon Musk has brought a lot of really smart people,” Edwards responded as he was met with a round of boos. Earlier this month, an internal VA memo indicated that the agency was preparing to lay off 80,000 from its workforce.

The interaction turned so contentious and hostile that Edwards had to be escorted out of the building.

“You don’t get to do this to us,” yelled another constituent.

Republican leadership has told their members to avoid in-person town halls like these after several members were grilled in their home districts.

Edwards, however, went against their advice on Thursday. The event comes as Republicans have faced protestors at town halls critical of the Trump administration slashing federal jobs.

“"You see a lot of advice in Washington, D.C. from different folks saying, you know, ‘Republicans shouldn't be out there doing town halls,’ and I'm thinking 'why not?' I love the people,” said Edwards.

The Trump administration is pushing forward with sweeping cuts with thousands of workers already having been laid off across the federal workforce – including Veteran Affairs, the IRS and the Department of Education.

Elon Musk split with the White House this week, suggesting that entitlement programs like Medicare and Social Security could be on the chopping block next.

"The waste and fraud in entitlement spending, which is all of the, which is most of the federal spending is entitlements, so that's like the big one to eliminate,” Musk said earlier this week.

Those words have left some voters very concerned, with Edwards taking the brunt end of the attacks Thursday night.

“What are you doing to ensure the protection of our Social Security benefits,” asked on constituent to a round of applause.

Replied Edwards: “I'm not going to vote to dissolve your Social Security. I'm not looking to disrupt Social Security at all.”

There is no question that there is enormous waste and fraud in this govt to the tune of billions, Its important to note that we have an administration in DC and the function is to administer and when there is waste and fraud, we should have an administration that should be on top of it

Pelosi in 2010 - We cannot keep our promises on medicare we simply must cut waste fraud and abuse in medicare so the benefit and premium are untouched we owe it to our seniors, we owe it to our country

Everyone talks about cutting waste fraud and abuse until someone actually tries to do something then they do everything to stop the cuts
More on when Politicians promised to cut waste and fraud. Until its time to actually cut the waste and they fight it

Haaa... that is not a problem, Trump's tariff and wastage cuts will make those Musk's EVs cheaper for everybody, very very cheap.... How? I don't know, just believe it or raumdeuter will tell us how cheesy

ObaIgwe1:
Hell would have been let loose with Republicans asking Congress to impeach her immediately.

But ramdeuter understands fully what is happening, he advised that this is the time to buy and buy and buy stock..... hmnnn, but then, only few rich people can afford to buy stock now, and these rich people might also have to accept loses by selling their old stock low to be able to buy new ones undecided huh , and how will those who cannot afford to buy egg under Biden, that are now struggling with the increased price of egg even think of buying stocks huh ?

Hmnnn... I am confused. Well Trumps must have a perfect solution and ramdeuter knows that solution, and as a good student, I am ready to learn... So ramdeuter, over to you cheesy
Stock market goes in cycles, Market corrections are a regular feature of the market

Anyone in the market will know its not a get rich quick scheme but a long play where you are almost certain in the long run to win

When there is a correction you get in and buy. 2 days ago while you are railing about the market, I told you its the time to buy stocks, NVDIA was selling for 107- 109 at the time I responded to you 2 days ago, now its 120 today, That is 11% profit in 48hrs. Imagine someone who put in 100k on Wednesday while you were busy wailing, he can take out $11k profit today.

That is what smart investors do instead of wailing Trump this Trump that over a market that had a downward turn

On the prices of eggs they are falling sharply,
Egg prices have fallen sharply so far in March on some progress in ending a shortage, giving consumers some much-needed relief with the supermarket staple.

The cost of white large shell eggs declined to $6.85 per dozen, on average, last week, according to data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. That represents a decline of $1.20 per dozen, and a 15% pull back the USDA’s prior update on Feb. 28.

On price of Gas it is also falling

The average price of gasoline in the U.S. dropped for the third straight week, falling to $3.03 per gallon, according to GasBuddy—reaching the lowest average price for the month of March since 2021, as analysts cite uncertainty over the state of the economy, including President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

On mortgage rates it is also falling

Mortgage rates dropped to the lowest rate since October of last year, and that pushed demand even higher last week, after a substantial jump the previous week.

Total mortgage applications rose 11.2% week to week, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association’s seasonally adjusted index.

On Inflation it is also falling
Inflation rate eased to 2.8% in February, lower than expected
Prices for goods and services moved up less than expected in February, providing some relief as consumers and businesses worry about the looming impact tariffs might have on inflation, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday
https://www.cnbc.com/2025/03/12/cpi-inflation-report-february-2025.html
So you can find something to wail about, Maybe price of water next or prices of oxygen or Trump imposed tariffs on Uganda or Trump promised Scott Senate leadership
