NMBA - Ahpra IMPORTANT INFORMATION Registration Standard: general registration for internationally qualified registered nurses By April 2025, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia's (NMBA) new Registration standard: general registration for internationally qualified registered nurses (registration standard) will take effect. This means eligible internationally qualified registered nurses (IQRNs) will be able to apply for an assessment against one of the two new pathways offered within the standard. Does the new registration standard apply to me? The registration standard applies to internationally qualified registered nurses (IQRNs) who hold a qualification relevant to the Australian nursing profession, and have held registration and practised as a registered nurse for at least 1,800 hours in one of the following NMBA-approved comparable jurisdictions: United Kingdom Ireland United States Canada (British Columbia and Ontario) Singapore, and Spain. More information about the standard, including all the qualification and eligibility requirements can be found on the General registration for IQRN page of the NMBA website. What happens if the standard doesn't apply to me or if I cannot meet all the requirements? If the standard doesn't apply to you or you cannot meet all the qualification and eligibility requirements, you will need to complete the existing assessment process for internationally qualified nurses and midwives. What happens if I have started the IQRN assessment process and I think the standard applies to me? Ahpra, in partnership with the NMBA, has published the Fact sheet: Registration standard - General registration for internationally qualified registered nurses and Pathways diagram for IQRN registration standard eligibility to help IQRN candidates determine if they are able to meet the requirements of the registration standard. If you think the standard applies to you, we encourage you to continue to check the General registration for IQRN page of the NMBA website for the latest updates. Ahpra and the National Boards acknowledge the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and Elders past and present. |

Good day, everyone ![]() Trust we are fine? I’m a nursing student graduating this year, and I’m interested in working in the U.S., specifically in New York. Is it possible for me to work there as a fresh graduate? Will I need to gain experience first? Please, how do I go about the process? Thank you. |

Hi Everyone. How are you all doing? Please I need urgent answer. I graduated May 2023. My school is yet to give us our certificate. I called my school yesterday and asked about our cert, they said that NMC Nigeria have not issued ours because our school are not putting enough pressure on them so they can send it.. They said if I want to get it from Abuja that they'll have to write a letter to NMCN for me to be able to go to Abuja and collect it. That even with the letter that I "might" still not get it. Please I need my cert, I'm currently in Lagos and the distance is something else.. Please is there any solution to this? Do you know any legit person who work with NMCN that can help me? Please your contributions/advice/comments will be very much appreciated.🤲🏼🤲🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 |

Hi all - for nurses/doctors who have travelled to UK for OSCE/PLAB, please is it more advisable to apply for a visit visa stating the exam as the purpose of trip or to just apply for a normal visit visa without mentioning the exam? I know both options are perfectly fine, but asking more from the perspective of better visa guarantee. I have a family member planning to come over for the purpose, so need a sound advice on this. Thank you! |

Good day everyone, does anyone know how the Germany process for foreign nurses work? I was told that B2 in German is a requirement, but are there exams and other requirements? Thank you |
| Re: Nigerian Nurses And Midwives With The Dream Of Working Abroad Let's Meet Here. by sharone21(f): 9:42am On Dec 27, 2025 |
everdeen:You need to look at these: https://www.anerkennung-in-deutschland.de/en/interest/finder/result?arrangement=Ja&location=47949&nationality=Drittstaat&profession=1695&qualification=Drittstaaten&whereabouts=Ausland&zipSearch=0 https://www.expatrio.com/about-germany/working-as-nurse-in-germany You need language knowledge and passing Goethe language levels exam. You may also build your language skills and just do the B1 and B2 exams instead of starting from scratch A1 level. Mind you, if you have zero knowledge of German, the language school here teaches you till B2 level. If you already know some German and need only exam preparations ( in order to cut cost), this language school does that too. You need an active license even if they won't need NMCN to actually verify it for you, though they may do the verification themselves when you submit your credentials and active license to them to confirm that your Nursing education and license are authentic. You will most likely pay your own airfares even if you have agency, check too for age limits.
