Civil servants and pensioners are been owed 3 MONTHS salary, so many abandoned projects yet the woman sounding governor is always in abuja 24/7.

They have a choice of making their governor and state legislators stop stealing their money and start using it to refurbish, maintain the hostels and employ well paid workers to make pipe borne water available in the hostels as it must have been when Otti was in university at PH in 1984.

Our schools were never built to allow foreigners school here. The highest you get is one or two non Nigerian academicians. Not much more.
Thats why a lecturer can stand and be saying A is for God and B for lecturers.

Every student is a billionaire in Abia

Abia state is going to spend 150 billion naira on education this year.

That money is meant to be spent on schools, primary and secondary, and tertiary institutions as well.

Below is the image from a hostel of the state university of California...whose budget alone was 9.1 billion dollars.

9.1 billion dollars FOR ONE UNIVERSITY vs 98 million dollars for primary schools, secondary schools, and university, and polytechnic. (Abia is even lucky they do not fund the federal government institutions in the state self). Oh and Abia state university gets 3.9 billion naira or 2 million dollars...most of which goes to salaries.


Even if we fight corruption, there is nothing much that can be done. Even if we do this and that, we cannot improve the hostels at all at all to 21st centruy standard.

So, my country people...either fees go up, or taxes in abia state revenue goes up....or Nigeria develops an economy that does not rely on oyel....or we stop complaining, and accept useless living factors.

You guys, either we pay more in fees and taxes, and yes, fighting corruption won't solve the problem because at the end of the day, there isn't enough money to upgrade the hostels to 21st century living.

He is telling the truth.

I am not here to take part in tribal bants. But most hostels in government universities are like that, my state included. Even in the FCT, at the university of Abuja, where they should have the best of the best, the hostels are awful...and inadequate. And I have seen UNILAG medical student hostels, and they look awful. I don't even want to look inside self.

This has been the issue for decades. Even when I was a child in the 1980's many hostels were already falling to bits (I am the son of now retired lecturers and essentially grew up on one of Nigeria's larger universities campus. I also am accuainted with University of Abuja as I live in the FCT ).

The palaver is that funding is not enough to improve hostels. But because most students in this country come from poor backgrounds, fee increases is not going to be popular. Even the student loan scheme of TInubu, while a 'good' idea...and it may even enable unis increase fees to meet the demand, just shifts debt to the student (and as seen in the USA, those debts can be albatrosses on the neck of students self).

This is not about your tribe being better than their tribe. It is a national disgrace.....and we should stop laughing and start thinkling solutions.

You should get the members of your graduating set together and start raising funds that would be used to improve your student hostels at your university. Get the attention of the rich people. Some of you know guys who know guys.

Raise a bucket ful of dollars or pounds...in the billions (a lot of buckets) and use the money to fix your university hostels.

The internet has made things easier.

If you cannot do that, then keep quiet, and go and sit down.

I never stayed in one except on visitations to siblings or friends. I rented a room off campus all through.
I once visited big bro at UI Zik Hall back then, mannnnnn, the toilet was nothing to write home about. It was years ago though, I believe it shouldn't be same now.
