I thought yellow cards are cancelled if they were not accumulated consecutively, or am I wrong?

First yellow was on match day1 and he didn't get another yellow on match day 2.

As Iwobi is on a yellow now, if he avoids another yellow against Zimbabwe today, automatically that previous yellow becomes invalid. Isn't that how it is done?

Someone who understands these rules better should look into this please, because we were punished for same reason enroute to 2018 world cup when Rohr fielded Shehu against Algeria in Algiers.
Shehu collected yellow against Swaziland in 2015 after about 5matches he got another one against zambia, we went ahead fielding him against algeria and we paid for it

Did South Africa field an ineligible player vs Lesotho?

Teboho Mokoena (Yellow Card 54 mins ) vs Benin- Match Day 1

Teboho Mokoena ( Yellow Card 52nd minute ) vs Zimbabwe -Match day 4

He should have been suspended for their game vs Lesotho, but he played. If confirmed, South Africa will be deducted 3 points.

Please let NFF, CAF, and FIFA know.
I've confirmed the yellow cards from FIFA official match reports of those matches.

However should he have been suspended? That's murky and unclear to me

According to the FIFA World Cup 2026 Preliminary Competition Regulations, if a player accumulates two yellow cards in separate matches during the World Cup qualifiers, they are automatically suspended for the following match.

It's important to note that these accumulated yellow cards carry over into the play-offs but do not extend into the World Cup finals or other future international matches.

Additionally, if a player receives a second yellow card within the same match, it results in a red card and immediate expulsion from the game. This leads to an automatic suspension for at least the next match, with the possibility of further sanctions depending on the severity of the offense.

These regulations are designed to promote fair play and maintain discipline throughout the qualification process.

Great, trust this will definitely be looked into.

Nigeria made a similar mistake during the 2018 WCQ by fielding an ineligible player against Algeria and 3points were deducted from us.

Chai abeg make win today’s match first o before we begin yellow card matter. Let’s get our 3 points first. Let this not become a distraction to the team.

FIFA would have made an announcement if he had breached the rule. No one reported Nigeria to FIFA when 3 points were deducted; It was FIFA itself that discovered the violation after previously notifying the NFF not to field Shehu in the match against Algeria but NFF ignored

Let the news distract South Africa, so they can lose to Benin today.

I thought it was Algeria or Zambia that notified FIFA about the Shehu incident

This WCQ might be organised by CAF, but it is till being governed by FIFA rules.... NFF can table their matter to FIFA and there's nothing Motsepe can do to stop it if South Africa are found guilty
