I seem to concur. From what I read, a pregnancy lasts for 9 months from the beginning of the last menstruation.
However, unlike a game of football with 2 equal halves of 45 mins, and a timer which tells you when you score a goal, it's quite difficult to tell when the ball (sperm) crosses the line (egg) that results in a goal (pregnancy)!

Plus, pregnancy is broken into three trimesters, and 3 trimesters times 3 months each reinforces that 9 months. In fact, doctors consider 36 months as pre-term except for twin gestation.

The fast swimmers can do that if you meet after the egg drops. Either way, pregnancy is calculated from her last period.

From the 1st of her last period. For example, if the 1st day of her period was the 1st of March and she has a 28 day cycle. If by the 29th she missed her period and does a pregnancy test that confirms she is pregnant, then the pregnancy is counted from the 1st of March.
