One of God's many attributes is generosity. If you have gone through a difficult phase in life and God later assisted you, show compassion in your own way. You can't help everyone, but you can help someone.

She was right to condemn child labour.
She was right to protect the child.
She was right to hold her accountable.
She was right to raise awareness.

You and others are not right to bully her. Calling her cruel and uncompassionate.
And Adetoun was not right to cave in, as she did.

A child should not be waking up at 3AM to sweep an estate when they should be resting and preparing for school. The mother continues to give birth, and she must care for all of them in this crazy economy. Enough to rebuke her for being selfish and not having parental responsibility. She can’t possibly provide for the four children: education, healthcare or stable upbringing, -and the children are put in the cycle of poverty.

But it doesn’t matter to us all. And it never matters to us all, unless it’s an opportunity for us to proclaim ourselves some form of messiah.

So he tells us that the child is working out of economic necessity. And that the mother needs compassion.

So others will argue that the focus of the video, should have been on the economic hardship that people have to endure.
Instead, Adetoun was just a villain, an oppressor, as she could have engaged the cleaner/mother privately and not publicly shame her, or be condescending in her approach. she had not cared about the dignity of the mother, and she only humiliated her, rather than empower her.

Adetoun capitulated coz the validation from social media matters. That was why she did the video in the first place. Not because she gave a damn about the child’s life. Than the aftermath. The crying and kneeling and wailing. All in the very manipulative lots.

Folks pushed her to reveal her performative righteousness.

And because validation matters to her- she rewarded this woman after the backlash. It alleviated her immediate struggles.

The country also shows its false outrage, as though her situation is not the lots of millions of people in the country. We pretend that suffering is not the norm for the lots. Or that the mother was justified.

Adetoun received more outrage than we give to those who orchestrated policies that have entrenched sufferings.

Now, there are other struggling women who have not made their children work, but remain unseen and unsupported. And nobody cares about them.

Now, Onakoya, who is another person wired for validation sees an opportunity, to enrich his own social capital. And yes, I must thank him. Someone else can cater for the 3 siblings or for the children and their mothers that now sweep and wash the gutters that his mother washed, the children from the north that are your domestic servants, or the children I won’t see tomorrow, for they already died in hazardous child labour.

There are several children, women in this country, with much worse fate. But they are not on social media or the source of any social capital: Mr Onakoya and all of us can’t care as there’s no social recognition. Performative altruism which doesn’t fix the individual choices/ structural conditions that have birth the situation or make suffering into some spectacle is what we are enthralled. A miracle, a divine intervention.

What have I ever done to contribute to the alleviation of situations of people??
Nothing superficial and performative.

And you would find folks out there creating awareness and bringing about genuine changes for thousands of lives. Even saving them from death. Not just jumping in spaces, and using these vulnerable lots to enrich themselves.
Oga this your third mainland bridge epistle is just trash,I trust Nigerians, they abused the hell out of her and she got a brain reset,if you feel you are fearless come out and embarrass a woman in front of her daughter, video it and post and see if you no go collect wotowoto

But it doesn’t matter to us all. And it never matters to us all, unless it’s an opportunity for us to proclaim ourselves some form of messiah. Or it will matter to some of you, only because you will fancy your parents or parents struggles in that woman. So, this will not merely seem to you to be detached from reality, but an attack on your ideals or parents. And you will say, how can one not sympathize with the poor mother? You were successful, but millions more have failed just coz of this shared hardship you perpetuate and justify. You became stronger and wiser, but millions more were permanently harmed and lost their future. Your experience of the struggle does not drive an iota of awareness to share an advocacy for the children. Rather, than pointing out the gaps in the woman’s behavior and having an outrage for the systemic issues that have caused hardship, your sense is wired to think ‘hardship is a rite of passage, because from it, I gained my resilience.’ It’s this mindset that creates an ideology that does not resist systemic issues. And one must not question or challenge an oppressive system that is perpetuated by ignorance just because she is a poor woman. A child helping a struggling parent in small ways is one thing, but you all think waking up at 3 AM for labour is right. You don’t care what sleep deprivation could do to her physical health, her concentration. a girl that is already malnourished must be further exposed to harsh conditions, and when she is exhausted, to poor academic performance, to limits in future opportunities.

So he tells us that the child is working out of economic necessity. And that the mother needs compassion.

This is my problem with a lot of rich, influential people in this country you can afford to live in lekki and you see a girl of 11 yrs old and her mother all you could do is to bring out your phone and start recording as if it is their joy to come and be sweeping at 4am. Not just that you have the guts to post it online without their consent thinking maybe you can disgrace them all because you want to protect yourself, but my God is the only one that can protect anyone and he had mercy on who he chooses to had mercy for, you plan to disgrace them but God has a plan to turn your disgrace to grace for them. As for Tunde you are 1 in a million if we have more people like you in this part of the world this country would be better place to live. Thank you so much.

Media personality Tunde Onakoya offers multimillion naira scholarship to the daughter of the woman who was exposed for taking her child to Work at 4:00AM in Ikoyi

Chess player Tunde Onakoya said he was sad when he saw the video of a mother being embarrassed in front of her daughter who was helping her sweep.

He said he is going to sponsor the girl's education up to university level.

Tunde said: "My mother used to sweep people’s houses and gutters in 2016. I often insisted on going with her just to help fetch the water she needed so we could finish quicker and get back home before daylight."
Thank God for the man who insulted them while sweeping if not for them this mairacle and favour wouldn't have come

Another nonsense talk, if you are not capable of raising a child then don't bring them to the world, because all you are doing is bringing them to come and suffer with you, which is unfair.
And you really think all those parents going through tough times now started out like that. Or should they kill their children when they experience down turn in their finances.
There are a million and one parents who had means of taking care of their children until some of them were sacked, business crumbled due to government policies or one unfortunate business deal, fire outbreak, and so many unexpected circumstances.
I guess you don't know much or have first hand experience about life.
And so you may know, many of these children from such background who helped and understood what their parents were sacrificing on their behalf did not complain as you think, but rather went ahead to become strong, and became extremely rich and successful.
So, guy , don't be quick to make the error of hasty generalization.

Big English and taking up such space without real life’s experience is meaningless. Maybe you are not married yet or maybe you do not have children yet. Again perhaps you are so wealthy that you do not know what it feels to be at that level. Your words sounded so simple, but that’s truly not the way the life goes.

Did you read your comment to see the contradictions? On one hand you said “what have I done to contribute to the alleviation of situations of people”? On the other hand you attacked Mr. Onakoya who offered millions to alleviate the suffering of the family.

With the way the economy is, inflation uncontrolled, how do you expect the so called common man to survive? Why not attack government first and get the FG to work on inflation? As it stands, many families cannot afford their meals anymore.

Take a look at the history of developed countries. The first thing that they take out of the way is hunger. They deal with agriculture first, ensuring food sustainability. Is that happening in our country? Do you not see the so call poor having lesser chances, while the rich get richer? If all our governments had dealt first with food and paid better salaries, would you be seeing children on the streets at 3am cleaning streets with their parents? Do you think that it is the wish of the woman to wake her children up at 3 am to go along to work with her?

Well fate had something for the woman and the child on the day. The helper noticed them on social media spaces and did the needful. That brutal lady should bow her face in shame. If she truly felt that it was wrong of the woman, she could have lent a helping hand, otherwise she should not rub their pain as shame in their faces.

Unfortunately, our government cannot boast of measures they put on the ground for the direct betterment of that child. Áre we properly documented even in our own country. If that child is dying of hunger because her parents could not provide for her will the same government know if she exists or not? NIgeria is happening to that child actually.

Performative altruism which doesn’t fix the individual choices/ structural conditions that have birth the situation or made suffering into some spectacle is what we are enthralled.

And you think it's alright to make a video and publicise it? It's obvious she is an attention seeker.

Even without the activitist presence, do you think the child like being woken up at 4am ?
Certainly not but life is not always about what you like or don't like. Am sure even the mother doesnt like exposing the child to the danger involved but life happens.

The activist could have been more humane in her approach

In as much as you will call it child labor . But parents tend to teach their children a sense of responsibility from a young age. They show you how the society works. You must earn to eat... you see kids putting up with their parents at the studio. Workshop or office space (if the father owns the company) all these is to teach the child if it's a continous and the child earns to take care of the parents now that is child abuse...

Now back to the woman. I still don't get it while people are so quick to pull out their phones and record people. Do you know that recording someone and posting online without their consent is a crime? Now you have a wave of content creators posting all sorts of nonsense.

You have an accident scene. Instead of pulling people out from vehicles and checking for pulses or giving CPR, people start videoing.

You want to go give something to the orphanage on your birthday or whatever, you pull out a camera to record people and posting online.

And you wonder why we do not have compassion no more.

She was right to condemn child labour.
She was right to protect the child.
She was right to hold her accountable.
She was right to raise awareness.
This is where you showed the cowardliness in you, lol. Tell us how how she raised the awareness! What method did she use? It is one thing to correct someone, it is another thing to do the correction with compassion and common sense. That's where she went wrong but you are too blind to see the point.

You and others are not right to bully her. Calling her cruel and uncompassionate.
And Adetoun was not right to cave in, as she did.

A child should not be waking up at 3AM to sweep an estate when they should be resting and preparing for school.
People like you would never understand how life it is for some people. Did you even for wonder where the father might be? You see! You don't have common sense.

The mother continues to give birth,
How did you know this? This is a clear sign that you're biased toward that woman.

You typed too much rubbish BTW. Are you idle or something?

We are talking in reference to this woman who is a road sweeper, how much do a road sweeper earn to be able to look after a child ?
I did not refer to an Ibo business man who had 3 shops at Alabama but was destroyed by fire.
We all know shit happens in life.

They were unsure about the tactics of giving birth to many kids, then using those kids or maiming them to generate some form of income on the streets.
