Which school and program did you apply to?

How did you apply for the bursary?

Thanks for sharing the information.

CalabarSamurai:
Good day everyone applying to, intending to apply to or thinking about applying to New Zealand.

I thought about posting my journey after successfully landing in Aotearoa New Zealand, but something told me that was a lack of faith right there! So I shall be sharing my journey to the land of the Kiwi's as it progressess.

I am not a betting man, but I can see Aotearoa New Zealand overtaking many of the popular destinations in the future, that's if you can manage paying the fees in full (not compulsory if you are taking the AIP route - you apply for the visa first and if successful, you then pay the school fees, in full), and taking a two day trip in economy (or business grin ) class.

Had I know about Aotearoa New Zealand, I wouldn't have wasted money on Canadian study application fees and I would have started preparations earlier, I would have jejely done my IELTS Academic since and kept, (IELTS Academic is compulsory for Aotearoa New Zealand schools - my school required a minimum of 6 across all bands, and a 6.5 overall score) - so yeah you're gonna do that IELTS Academic, its not hard, its just English. At the time of posting this, it costs 266,000.00 Naira for the exam.

For the school fees, I got a hefty bursary of 15,000 NZD (I would have gotten a scholarship but as I didn't take my books seriously I missed it), anyway I said thank you Lord for giving me a sign! So try and see if you can get a scholarship or a bursary, and for this I would recommend using an agent, I used IDP (I hope this is not an advert, I am just sharing the steps I took), they don't charge a dime, you just know what you want to study and that makes the work easier.

1 NZD = 879 Naira

To be continued... Next update: Police Character Certificate and IOM X-Rays but after the public holidays.

1. University of Waikato and MSc. Information Technology.

2. I didn't apply, I was informed by the IDP Agent that I was eligible (the bursary is optional because it comes with T's and C's), I just accepted the bursary offer, that's all.

Wow. That’s a lot. Congrats.

You will still have to hustle around 28k tuition fee balance.

Thanks for the information.

Don’t you need to pay the tuition fee balance before your visa application?
Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by CalabarSamurai(m): 3:03pm On Mar 31, 2025
There are two options - pay the tuition fee (which by God's grace I have done) and then submit the study visa application or do the AIP Route (you submit the study visa application and if successful, the VO gives you a period of time to pay the tuition fees and forward the receipt given by the school to NZD Immigration).

AIP - Accepted In Principle

Congratulations 👏👏

Pls I'm really interested in the police report and medicals... I'm getting conflicting statements on the immigration NZ site.

Can only chest X-ray serve or I need to do a general medical examination? The fee is just out of the world men ($133 on IOM and #175k on The Consultant). But only x-ray is about #45k. Was thinking if only x-ray could serve.

Ps: I'm going for a PhD
Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by CalabarSamurai(m): 9:06pm On Mar 31, 2025
It’s best to follow what’s on the NZD Immigration website. Unfortunately, their approved partners would want to make a “killing” especially if they’re the only ones doing the medicals. Just give them what they require. Personally, I am yet to do the PCC and Medicals yet as I am still gathering documents. All the best!

Base on the website below, you will have to get the medical and X-ray done.

How can I show evidence for the subsequent years if I have paid for the first year? This is not written on their website.

blaze007:
Nope. All new Zealand schools are payment before service. So you have to pay all your tuition fees for 1 year if the course is more than 1 year and then show evidence for the remaining tuition fees.

If it's a 1 year program, you will pay complete tuition before you apply for visa self.

Don't forget you will show evidence of NZ 20k for upkeep and then NZ 3k for logistics in your account or sponsor.

You show the money in your account as pof or show evidence of how you will get the money.

Note:
If you are using an agent, please follow up like a defender marking a player, also make sure you have access to your school portal profile to ensure that the required documents have been uploaded and that you are at the right stage. Thank you for your response, so this means that if the embassy needs me to proof 22k NZD for a year, I may still need to prove 44k NZD for 2 subsequent years?

Also, can a registered business and operational be a proof?

Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by blaze007(m): 7:15pm On Apr 02, 2025
Yes correct.
Yeah if you are self employed and have all your company registration, bank statement, Tax certificate, some recommendations from people you do business with. Just to prove that your business is genuine.

IDP right?? Them too slow. You have to practically cry and beg them. Well, what else do you expect when the service is free.

Honestly, you have to follow up with some of the agent and even when they say they have process your request, try to see pictorial evidence.

I guess most of them are busy with lot of candidates.

Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by CalabarSamurai(m): 3:29pm On Apr 05, 2025
The English language requirement depends on the school you are applying to. Check their website, if duolingo is included, then you can use duolingo.

Please if you don't mind what is your background as I can that also determine if you get to do 120 or 180 points..

Also approximately how many weeks for visa processing? Thanks.
Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by CalabarSamurai(m): 5:03am On Apr 06, 2025
Visa processing time differs, as with all things, there are peak and off seasons, best to check immigration New Zealand website for accurate times.

Update:
If you live outside the only two states in Nigeria i.e. FCT and Lagos States grin , try to make sure your Police Character Certificate capturing and IOM-NZD Xray and Medicals fall on the same day (if its in Abuja), to save transport costs. If you're done with the Xray and Medicals, the FCID in Abuja is a 10 minutes drive.
You are doing the General Medical Certificate (check IOM Website for the current exchange rate - $133), you can pay in person and do the test on the same day), and also the Police Character Certificate is valid for only 3 months.
All the best !
