Number of stores and not size. Read well. Also look at the disclaimer below in the picture attached. Not all stores are captured here

Roban only operates in the South East. I've never seen any of their stores outside the southeast.

But you see that Bokku eh, the rate at which they open stores is scary. I was telling someone that it might be owned by a politician cos even in my area, they've bought all the old buildings and transformed them into their supermarket.

The cost of such investments isn't a joke. You've got to have billions on ground to be able to keep up with the pace.
I swear. They're everywhere...I mean everywhere.

You are very right because if not how are they able to open new branches. But it could have made more sense if they have a version of the bread for adults , only younger people can eat this breads it is just way tooo sugary for me
Is there any bread for adults and any for children? Come on you guys should stop this na. For every one person that doesn't like the bread, there are hundreds more who love it so they had already done their survey and they know their target customers. Honestly you need to visit bokku stores and see how many people even elderly are queueing up for the bread. They got it spot on! Even the bread can stay up to 5days without decomposing cos of the quality yeast and my work colleagues on the island always want me to bring some when coming to work. What you mostly perceive and taste in that bread isn't really sugar. It's majorly milk and butter. They add lots of milk to the bread. Next time you buy the bread, look at the warning at the back. People who are lactose intolerant need to avoid eating too much of it in one sitting due to the high amount of milk.

Store count is evident for everyone to see. Even if another store is added based on store count, bokku would still lead. The Op got the info from nairametrics I believe but if you have a better version, you can upload here at least nairaland is also for learning one or two

I already asked you to read what I wrote slowly

The Op said the stores where chosen based on standard of size. That's his own words

Why are you trying to change the narrative on his behalf

If he knew the info is from nairametrics, he shouldn't have added to it what is not there. Nairametrics are not infallible. I personally feel GB should be there given that I'm seeing some with just 8 counts.

My point is if the Op is claiming "standardised supermarkets" was a factor in Nairametric's research, then the outcome is already faulty since everyone knows Bokku stores cannot clearly qualify as "standardised supermarkets"

You may be right sha. Bokku reeks of a copycat model, likely trying to mimic German hard-discount grocery chains like Aldi and Lidl. Unfortunately, they don’t have the budget to operate in Nigeria at that level. You'll see the copy-cat thing in how they were first to start this idea of charging customers for plastic bags way before the Lagos State government forced others to join just because, in the country they copied their model from, sustainability is a big deal.

Again, they made their staff stand all day during the first months or even years after they started operating. The copycat vibe was just too strong. Good thing they’ve stopped that nonsense now. I mean, why would anyone force cashiers to stand all day for a 60k naira salary because workers in developed countries do such? They copied everything but forgot to copy Germany’s minimum wage.
Bokku do not paystaff 60k my lord !!! Ordinary baker earn about 100k and the take an o'level graduate.
The associate (cashier like you put it) earn a bit over that. If you so not know the pay structure ask people that know and you will de briefed accordingly my lord .

This is joke definitely who made you billionaires

Be it anywhere in Nigeria
Nigeria don’t have more than 5 billionaires rest are noise makers

How much do you pay as tax how many staff do you have

What do you produce or which industry do you have that serve more than Nigerians this are real billionaires

No huspuppy or dosh low key are billionaires or owner of Amen estate with 3000 duplex is a billionaire lolz

Owners of bank alone are not billionaires if you not in industrialization

That Bokku is everywhere, I always wonder where the owner or owners got funds from. In some 4-5 kilometer roads, you can have as many as 3 on same road. This was kinda how Addide was back in the 2000s, but Bokku is spreading at a faster rate than how Addide did back then.
They are also advertising in electronic mainstream media that I've monitored online. I never heard of Bokku until 2025 tbh. They have to ensure they do NOT get overextended in order to gain the required ROI on their investments.

Another day to remind y'all that the Yorubas build Lagos—not like I expect it to be duty of other people, I mean who are the indigines anyway—and stay quiet and humble while at it.

Hian, wete ego, chorom ego, ego bu mmiri, ego mpurummmmiri

Lol cheesy grin grin grin
Arm chair analyst. You dey inside one room see Alaba and Ladipo. Mr. Baba sope, talk about things that you are informed about.

Alaba market by far generates more revenue than all the superstores put together. You have little shops with goods in millions. Your superstores purchase their electronics stocks from Alaba market, except for LG. The bakery machines used by Bokku, I believe are purchased in Alaba market. It is not known as th biggest electronics and electrical market in Africa for nothing. With over 10,000 standard shops, how can you compare it to the few superstores scattered nationwide?

Unfortunately politics and tribalism would not allow your people to fix the connecting roads. If government plays its role, they should get taxes in billions from the shops, as the business owners are more than willing to pay, if all conditions are right.

Until the arrival of baba go slow in 2015, Alaba market used to receive over 500 containers of various goods from various parts of the world daily. After Baba go slow, Nigeria had and now experiences ebi n pawa. If 100 containers arrive daily, it is with celebration.

Ojo local government where Alaba is located, is supposed to be one of the richest in the federation, but rather than put its acts together, they are playing tribal politics.

Government should fix the stretch of road between the local government hqt and Sunny bus stop.

I think only Market Square has a great potential. I first noticed Market Square in PH about two months ago, their location is almost everywhere in PH, then on getting back to lagos, I saw about two locations again. Bukku marts is just selling sugary breads everywhere with small mini mart. Market Square is taking Justrite's glory, Justrite needs to expand to other states.
Insightful, I'm really curious now. I have to visit these outlets whenever I fly back to any of those cities in order to get a flavor of what they're all about. My usual joints have always been SPAR and Shoprite outlets whenever in Naija.

That must be a bread made from well-made bread recipe for it to last for 5 whole days before going rancid or mouldy in room temperature. It takes normally about two days max to store bread at room temperature before it begins to go stale.

Storing bread at room temperature in a cool, dry place (in a bread can/bread box or airtight container) is ideal.

Okay I just discovered something. ShopRite and spar should not be on that list. They are hypermarkets not supermarkets. Nairametrics fumbled. Bokku mart is a supermarket. Evidence below:

Supermarket:
Focus: Primarily sells food and grocery items, along with some household goods and personal care products.
Size: Medium to large, typically ranging from 10,000 to 50,000 square feet.
Product Range: Limited to groceries and related items.
Location: Often located in residential areas for convenience.
Example: A typical grocery store that you might find in a neighborhood.

Hypermarket:
Focus: Offers a wide variety of products, including groceries, electronics, clothing, furniture, and more.
Size: Much larger, often exceeding 100,000 square feet.
Product Range: Extensive, encompassing a broad range of goods.
Location: Often located in larger spaces, sometimes outside of residential areas.
Example: Walmart Supercenter or a similar large retail store that offers everything under one roof.

It's quality bread honestly. This is what Nigerians need right now. The first time I tried it and discovered the shelf life of the bread, I stopped buying any other bread. Also bokku mart has the best prices that you can't get in any other supermarket in Lagos when it comes to groceries, beverages, junk food, drinks, household items e.t.c

Lol. In my area, I've counted about 4 of their stores within walking distance from each other. It's not like they're into tech that one can easily conclude that they can rake in hundreds of millions as turnover at the end of the year if their services is accepted worldwide.

They sell regular groceries which you can easily get at cheaper rates from mallams and shops within your neighborhood.

So what's their profit margin considering how much they spend on staff salaries, electricity, building cost, taxes...etc. Are they making profit at all?
