It was gathered that the wedding scheduled to have been held on April 5th, 2025, in Jos Plateau State, was called off by the bride over her refusal to attend the groom’s church after the tying of the nuptials.

While the venue was set, the guests were invited, and the atmosphere electric, little did anyone know a storm was brewing behind the scenes.

According to our correspondent, it all started during the final counselling session with the reverend.

The couple were asked about their plans for their future church attendance, and that’s when the sparks flew.

The bride, a devoted Catholic, said she would continue to attend her church, while the groom, a devout COCIN member, insisted that they would attend his church together.

It was gathered that the priest, sensing the tension, asked if they had ever discussed the issue during their courtship.

However, ”the couple exchanged uneasy glances, and the groom revealed that his mother had been adamant that they attend his church,” a source who spoke under the condition of anonymity told our correspondent in Jos.

Furthermore, the source disclosed that ”the groom said his mother clarified it that if the bride would not follow him to his church, the wedding is off.”

In reaction the bride’s eyes ”widened” in frustration as she retorted, “If your mother is going to decide everything for you, then maybe we should call off the wedding.”

”The groom, taken aback by her words, returned home and shared the conversation with his mother”, who also agreed to have the wedding called off.

As the wedding day approached, the bride, Patience, realised that her future mother-in-law wasn’t bluffing.

The source disclosed that she began to plead with the groom, promising to attend his church and compromise on their differences.

However, the mother-in-law’s mind according to the source, “was already made up.”

Our correspondent gathered that as the guests arrived at the venue, they were met with an empty aisle and a disappointed crowd. The wedding was officially called off, and the bride was left heartbroken"

Good and experienced mother. What's the essence of being christians attending different churches. That can come up later in the marriage with permission from the husband but not starting up a married life with that. Means there are many other things and situations where she won't consider her husband's opinion at all and divorce will definitely come up. The husband self is a mumu. She has used feminine deception to cloud his mind finish.

Even her pastor can tell her not to marry him because he's not a member if she pays her tithe regularly. They know when she gets married, she might change church and tithe is gone ... I"m talking from experience. The pastor will find all means to tell her they are not compatible

She called it off because the groom's mother was a major part of the decision making. The decision of the church to attend is just one of the various interventions from the mother.

Better for relationship to break than marriage, at least for now, nobody would start counting the number of husband/wife for the two partners.

Meanwhile, it seems two of them are not mature enough to go into marriage, because the issue is supposed to have been sorted out themselves even before counseling.

In as much I don't like bride disobedience, I think groom too, has a red-flag, saying..... "his mother insisted they do particular things after marriage", is a sign of weak man, in which his mother won't allow him to enjoy his marriage, parents shouldn't be telling couple what to abide in their marriage, they are mature,that's why they are going into marriage, hence let them take their own decisions mutually devoid of 3rd party.

Matters such as this would continue TiLL MeN have sense enough to understand partnership between 2 people where financial and/ or investment is mostly done by one party (the Man), while the other party (woMan) adds nothing, hence has (almost) nothing to LOOSE and could walk away any time.

This issue should have been resolved long ago before anything marriage. It's something a discuss because we cannot go separate churches. So if you aren't accepting then we part ways.
The groom is a mummy's boy. Mama this mama that. Look at is face like someone that will truly be controlled. So the decision is even your mother decision but not yours. You never rather for live. That was how I was trying to make someone stay in my church, he likes being with us but he said is mother want him to be going to their church, he is a Catholic but the annoying thing is that this guy is over 37 years and his mother is still influencing which church he goes. My parents don't disturb us about where we chose to serve God so I am surprised to see or hear some certain happenings.

Maybe she was not well advised. The Catholic Church supports mixed marriage. The Holy Spirit that make you a good Christian is not restricted to any church.

As a Catholic and Christian who has been to many Pentecostal churches and seen hell there, I would say this is the best decision for them. May God help her find a man with the same belief and ideology.

Most Pentecostal churches make you feel like you’re in a cult as a Catholic. I even attended a dying ministry led by a so-called pastor from Mountain of Fire, and guess what? The topic of the day was the Catholic Church! I was so pissed at the rubbish that man was vomiting — it literally took the grace of God for me to sit till the end of that service.

There is literally no Pentecostal church in Nigeria I haven’t been to, When I was in search of miracles and financial breakthrough. If you see the kind of abracadabra going on behind the scenes, you go shock! Fake testimonies, fake miracles, fake deliverance — I saw it all.

But these money-mongers that call themselves pastors will always want to make you feel like once you’re in the Catholic Church, you’re doomed for hell. Meanwhile, the corruption in their own churches is 7 times worse.

Jehovah’s Witness members even have far more respect, in terms of criticism, compared to Pentecostal church members.

But what really made me swear never to attend any Pentecostal church again is this — these churches will always invite you as a Catholic to attend theirs. And we honour the invite. But for them to step into a Catholic Church? Never! Except it’s for a wedding or naming ceremony.

In fact, it’s even easier for a Muslim to attend a Catholic program than for a fellow Christian worshipping in a Pentecostal church to do so.

And I keep wondering... aren’t we all Christians? Aren’t we worshipping the same Christ? So why the segregation?

Well, after all my waka up and down, I just came to realize — No church is the best but Catholic Church is the best place to be. I am a Catholic, I will marry a Catholic, and I will die a Catholic.
